JetBoaters Community Forum Code of Conduct
Welcome to the JetBoaters Community Forum! We’ve provided these Rules of Conduct to provide guidelines for new and old members alike on behaviors and activities that are acceptable and encouraged as well as those that are not permitted. Your continued use of the JetBoaters Community Forums is based on your adherence to these Rules of Conduct.

These Rules of Conduct apply to all threads, posts, private messages (AKA Conversations), visitor messages on user profiles, social groups, and any other form of communication within JetBoaters Community Forums (collectively “Forum Content”).
Why have these rules? It is most important to the founders of this forum that we avoid any mis-understanding and mis-communication about how we want our community to work. The word “OUR” in intentionally used as we don’t want this forum to EVER be considered by anyone to be considered “MY forum” or “Mine” or “My Way or the Highway”. So some fundamental decisions were made when we founded this forum. Ownership would be by committee, not by a single member. If committee members leave, they are replaced by another member who is voted in by a simple majority of the committee. The key here is to focus on the community as a whole, and to ensure that decision of the committee are always made with the community’s best interest in mind.
Moderation and moderators: No one moderator will ever make a descision to suspend or ban a member. These decisions will be made in accordance with our code of conduct described below. We want to avoid the inevitable clashes that will occur as a result of our differing opinions and personalities. So we made these rules to ensure things are fair, and again, to ensure the community and sense of community come FIRST!

Our Pledge to Our Members and Our Community:
1) We will do our utmost to provide the latest and best information on all things Jet boats
2) We will disclose our financials and be transparent on the operations of the forum
3) We will NEVER ban or suspend a member for joining another forum or any other community on the internet!
4) We will never ban or suspend a member for linking to another forum or other community (we welcome this!)
5) You will never face a suspension without notification of the offense for which is was imposed, and a warning will always preceed this (unless a flagrant violation occurs—and even then you will be informed of that violation).
6) We will listen to our members and guide the community based on member input.
7) We will keep our promises to the community, or notify the community if a promise cannot be upheld. We would like the same from our members.
8) We will review complaints about our volunteer staff (we are all volunteers!) and respond in writing.
9) We welcome your input on this code of conduct and will change it as needed.

1. JetBoaters Terms of Service

The JetBoaters Terms of Service govern all use of the JetBoaters Service, including JetBoaters.net and the JetBoaters Community Forums (“Forum”). Violation of the Terms of Service can result in suspension of your forum account and other JetBoaters services.

1a. JetBoaters Terms of Use
The providers ("we", "us", "our") of the service provided by this web site ("Service") are not responsible for any user-generated content and accounts. Content submitted express the views of their author only.
This Service is only available to users who are at least 13 years old. If you are younger than this, please do not register for this Service. If you register for this Service, you represent that you are this age or older.
All content you submit, upload, or otherwise make available to the Service ("Content") may be reviewed by staff members. All Content you submit or upload may be sent to third-party verification services (including, but not limited to, spam prevention services). Do not submit any Content that you consider to be private or confidential.
You agree to not use the Service to submit or link to any Content which is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening, spam or spam-like, likely to offend, contains adult or objectionable content, contains personal information of others, risks copyright infringement, encourages unlawful activity, or otherwise violates any laws. You are entirely responsible for the content of, and any harm resulting from, that Content or your conduct.
We may remove or modify any Content submitted at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at our discretion. We may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.
You are granting us with a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, unlimited license to use, publish, or re-publish your Content in connection with the Service. You retain copyright over the Content.
These terms may be changed at any time without notice.
If you do not agree with these terms, please do not register or use the Service. Use of the Service constitutes acceptance of these terms. If you wish to close your account, please contact us.

2. Courtesy and Respect

2A-Forum Content must be civil and where possible it should be courteous. The JetBoaters Forums are a place for positive and constructive interactions between people that own Jet Boats or that have an interest in Jet Boats. Forum activity such as overly bumping, petitioning, lobbying, cross posting, etc is not constructive and is not permitted.
Forum Content must not:
-Be abusive, disrespectful, harassing or hostile and must not haze or attack others.
-Discuss politics or religion as they do not relate to JetBoaters and have a tendency to provoke disagreements.
-Incite, promote or endorse legal actions against JetBoaters or any other entity or member.
2B-It is inappropriate for members to repeatedly use the "Dislike" or Thumbs down post ratings as retaliation to other members with whom they have a disagreement. In the event this occurs, moderators may:
  1. remove the permissions from members to rate posts
  2. delete the dislikes members added that were deemed inappropriate/retaliatory
  3. Give a warning to the offending member.
Moderators may delete spurious "dislikes" or thumbs downs that appear to be entered in error - this can happen on mobile devices by accident.

2C-Forum Members and their Forum Content must not impersonate or attempt to impersonate other Forum Members.

2D-The membership of the forum voted on if the forum should allow posting of a political nature (or other volatile topics), and it was decided that we should not. As such, posts that include the following will result in a note to the member indicating that they have violated the code of conduct:
  1. Discussions about elections and those running for office
  2. Photos or videos of candidates, political flags, campaign slogans etc
  3. Political MEMEs
  4. Posts regarding topics that are politically divisive (gun control, immigration, climate change etc)
2E - No Trolling other people's thread. Trolling is off topic (often negative or valueless) replies to the topic of the Original Poster (OP). This is different than unintentional topic wandering - which is "discussing a similar topic but not the same topic". We try and split threads that "wander" off topic to their own thread. Repeated trolling-off topic valueless/negative replies will result in Warnings". Multiple trolls of a thread will result in a reply ban - which prevents you from replying. Personal attacks and trolling will result in a temporary reply ban as a cooling off measure.

Please use the "Report" link at the bottom of a post if you feel it violates our rules.

3. Privacy

Private communications between forum members, moderators, and affiliates or partners of JetBoaters.net should remain private.

Forum Content placed in public channels should not include copies of private communications, including support tickets, emails, private messages, and chat logs, unless both parties agree to its release.

4. Viruses and Hacks

Forum Content must not:
-Contain viruses, adware, spyware, worms or any other malicious code.
-Promote or describe methods for circumventing or manipulating these Rules of Conduct, the JetBoaters Terms of Service, or the mechanics of any aspect of the JetBoaters Site.

5. Illegal Content and Copyright

Forum Content must not:
-Contain (i) pornography; (ii) obscene images; (iii) threatening or defamatory remarks or images; (iv) hateful, racially or ethnically offensive remarks or images; (v) descriptions or promotions of illegal activity; or (vi) provide links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned content.
-Violate any applicable laws, contractual restrictions or any other third party rights.
-Nudity is permitted in NSFW (not safe for work) Forum only-membership to this forum is by request.

JetBoaters will respond to clear notices of alleged copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights infringement.

6. Commercial Activity: Spam, Selling and Scams

Forum Content must not:
-Spam other members or the community.
-Do not post the SAME content to multiple forums/sub forums. Only post your content ONCE. Violations of this will result in your duplicate posts being deleted and your posting rights may be suspended (temporarily while we contact you about the SPAM problem).
-Resellers are asked not to spam the board with their links and sales pitches. Resellers who do will be handled like any other member breaking the rules.
-Contain content that encourages other forum members to participate in commercial activity or scams that violate JetBoaters’s Terms of Service or Rules of Conduct.

7. Singular Identity

Each community member is limited to one forum account.

8. Signatures

We encourage Forum members to exercise positive self-expression. Forum members may include signatures in their posts.
-Please see this post for our guidelines on signatures.
Signatures and signature images that are not consistent with these Rules of Conduct may be removed or edited. Members will be contacted when this occurs.

9. Violations of these Rules of Conduct

Forum Content and activity must not violate the letter or spirit of these Rules of Conduct. Forum Moderators and the JetBoaters committee will review whether Forum Content or activity is in violation of these rules.
Responses to violations may include, but not be limited to: issuing a warning; removing Forum Content; suspending or terminating use of the Forums or other aspects of the JetBoaters site.
Jetboaters.net uses both "Warnings" and moderator reviews to handling conduct violation. Initial conduct violations will result in a Warning, which can result in temporary bans (please read the linked post about how warnings work). Subsequent or repeated violations be reviewed by the forum committee or the moderator committee (depending on the need for expediency). If a member has been warned about a particular behavior or conduct violation and continues to do it.
In the event we have an issue with a member beyond the use of "Warnings", the committee will meet to consider banning the member permanently, but we don’t expect to ever have to do this, and it is not our intention to run the community with this in mind.

A failure to enforce any aspect of these Rules of Conduct does not prevent Forum Moderators or other JetBoaters staff from doing so in the future.

Appeals Process: Members with questions or concerns about these Rules of Conduct and Forum management may direct their questions to a Committee member or moderator.

All of that being said, we really hope to NEVER need to suspend or ban a member. We should be able to get along.

10. Changes to the Rules of Conduct

JetBoaters may revise these Rules of Conduct at any time by making changes to this page. You should check this page from time to time to make note of any changes.

4/12/2020-Updated with changes to reference the use of "Warnings"
7/28/2020-Updated with section 1a to add the "Terms of Use" verbiage to this Code of Conduct. Also Changed the URL at the bottom of the Forum page for "Terms of Use" to redirect to this "Code of Conduct" page.
11/10/2021 - Updated the signature section to point to our signature guidelines post
12/7/2021 - Added Section 2E for "No Trolling"

Nope, you don't need to read all of that. It is pretty basic forum etiquette. But we did want to lay down the rules to make it clear that transparency was a founding objective. When we were kicking the idea around of starting doing this, we wanted to make sure we created a forum for members, run by members, and policed by members. Not singular in any of those statements. You'd never run a home owners association with a board of 1. Same here.

So lets be better than that other place. Treat each other (and them) with respect and take the high road.

etiquette... oh, that!

We should have an OATH:

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Jetboater Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

;)

Tough to read it all. But it is nice to have it in writing.
Thanks to those who took the time to put it on paper.

I borrowed the bulk of it from somewhere and modified it for our goals and objectives! Namely....to ensure the site supports our members interacting/discussing our favorite pastime!

Stupid question.. Does the thumbs down button have a more serious meaning than just disagree with a post?

Good, Noko was disliking tons of my posts because he evidently does not like me.

This is the sort of behavior we want to discourage. The purpose of post ratings isn't to use it as a weapon against other members when you disagree. We will all have disagreements (heck, you and I have had our share! LOL), but disliking each other's posts doesn't do the other members and guests any good.

This is also something we'd prefer not to have to "police"...the less of that we do, the happier we will all be. So we felt it appropriate to define this in our code of conduct so expectations and use of the forum are clear.
