Just had my Simrad Go7 installed. Weather keep me out of the water today but will be out testing it this weekend. One thing for sure, it looks cool! Location wise we don't have many choices but Simrad has a YouTube commercial using the 242 limited s so I figured this would work. I can still see over the unit to all switches behind it.

To hell with the switches... That screen looks cool!

(My setup is similar and really you only need to look at the switches like once or twice per trip.)

@deancastor I'm still drooling over the GO7, have you had much time to use it yet? Just curious if you could give a review, and let us know if it is easy to use as far as chart plotting ETC, are you using the transducer and fish finder side at all?

I'm heading to the coast for a few days on Wednesday for my first chance to have some extended time to play with it some and I will report back by next week. I will try and make note of everything that works.

Awesome! I am looking forward to your review of how it does as well. By the way, did you connect the NMEA 2000 to your engines so you could see the engine data too?

Ok sorry for delay all! And unfortunately weather prevented me my "play time" I expected this past weekend. However I can say I love this Simrad. I do not have any real engine function other than speed, so that's an area I need to look into to see if it can be connected. I don't fully understand NMEA 2000 and if I can add it to these engines?? If so, it would make this unit a total no brainier. But as for simplicity, screen clarity, charting and navigating it is awesome. The echo sounder and structure scan are great. Having another depth finder easy to see is also a plus. I plan to try out the wireless connection this weekend (weather permitting - I'm sick of rain every time I go to the coast). But overall, it was worth the money just for the look, the screen, and the gps functions. I love it and am sure I will learn more and be able to use for more in time.

I have enjoyed my Raymarine Dragonfly but unless Raymarine significantly ups their game on software it is likely that a GO7 will be on my boat next year!

Why you say that @Bruce Do you not think the 5 Pro is a good model? Asking cause I'm looking and researching.

My perspective is that the Simrad GO5 / Go7 range is a generation newer. Raymarine built the Dragonfly first but has failed to make substantial updates. The Dragonfly is a solid product that will serve you well. Many limitations in the Dragonfly product range are likely attempts to get buyers to upgrade to their more expensive products.

Here are a few relevant points
  • The Simrad GO products are touch screen.
  • The Simrad GO apps are not just for viewing but actually control the plotter.
  • The Simrad GO products are capable of "Autorouting", Raymarine Dragonfly is not.
  • The Simrad GO products are capable of providing dashboard instrument display.
  • The Simrad GO products are capable of updating charts via WiFi, Raymarine requires using a computer.
Have a look at the GO7 manual https://www.simrad-yachting.com/Root/SimradProSeries_docs/GO7_GS_EN_988-10865-001_w.pdf vs the second generation Dragonfly manual https://raymarine.app.box.com/s/fhdwfonudiysvlfhcwdg/1/3615615773/29202205180/1

Hi. We are not only new to this forum but brand new to jet boating. I have already seen some very helpful info posted and I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface. Thanks for all the info. I saw that others have the Simrad GO7 and wanted to share my fitment ideas. Unfortunately the weather has prevented my first use but we are looking forward to testing it out.
