I am planning on leaving it in the water, good or bad idea? besides all the usual engine stuff, is there places water gets that will freeze and cause problems? My out of water spot is not covered. So does covered in water beat uncovered out of water?

As long as the lake doesn't freeze around the boat, then there isn't much difference between storing on the lake vs trailer. I pull mine off my lift for the winter just because I don't use it as much, and on the water the humidity is more liable to contribute to mold/mildew growth in the boat/on the seats etc. Water can freeze inside the boat, but not many places this can damage the boat....the water would have to be trapped and constrained....so ballast hoses and drain hoses (like bilge pump hoses/scupper hoses) are the primary concern....especially when it comes to them thawing again. Also water pooled on top of the clean out plugs....

I wouldn't feel comfortable with it IN the water....but on a lift....with proper care, shore power and a good cover...safer

no lift...but power. I'm in georgia, lake lanier, the lake doesn't freeze. Thanks for the info.

What type of boat you got? My yamaha's owners manual advises against storing the boat in the water
