Wake surfing 212X questions

I pick up the new to me 2015 212X this weekend, we never tried wake surfing behind our previous X and since my kids are a little older they want to try it. I read that the wake wedge will not work with thrust vectors...what is the best budget way to make the wake a little larger? Some type of wedge or adding ballast? If I add ballast how does that work with the current pump set up? Thanks in advance for the input

I believe the WakeWedge will work with thrust vectors, but @jcyamaharider can clarify. The custom swimdeck ballast bag makes a huge difference for the wake. I have the WakeWedge and the swim deck bag in my 2013 212x. Great wave. I just don’t want to spend that much money on a wake wedge. They are pricey! I’ll review your post and if I have any other question I’ll respond here or in PM.

If you want to surf a twin you're going to need the Wedge at a minimum of some kind of device to block the wash. @jcyamaharider is working in a dual side version so this should make the buy-in a bit easier to swallow if you think you'll have friends who want to surf both sides. The device simply works and cleans up the face getting rid of all the jet wash on the surf side. I've seen it transform @Bill D 's wave before and after the install and it's night and day.

@dadofral i’ve got a 2014 212x and i don’t need the wedge to get a killer wake. So...start with ballast first. Use a 450 bag on the back deck centered. Use about 1000 lbs on surf side. Start there....

Thrust Vectors will not work in conjunction with the Wake Wedge on 2012 and up 210 series boats.

Goofy wakes are cleaner on all of our boats, If you surf port side it will not look like bobbies wake. If you want to surf and not buy a WW, the just make a turn to the surf side. It will clean it up, I just don't like surfing in a circle.

On my 242x, I use the factory ballast full (or as full as I can get that blasted port-side sac), put an additional 400lbs on the back porch, and use a Wake Wedge. We get a pretty descent wake.

My Goofy-footed friends always ask why they have to surf regular and why we don't have a wedge for the starboard side. My response is, " Since I'm regular I bough one for the port side and that wedge costs about $800. I'm willing to hang one out there whenever someone wants to buy one." I've yet to have a taker.

Which bag do you use on the back?? I assume it's a bag that you fill an leave it?? or can you hook it into the existing pump system?

The benefit is the pump attaches directly to the bag. I also like these bags as they have a space that looks kind of like a chimney where it's designed to put the pump into the bag to pump the water out. Since I always put my bag on the swim step, when I'm ready, I just unzip that tower on top of the bag and then put some weight on the bag...it'll empty out of that 6" hole in about 15 seconds.

I also like that large hole as it's easy to get air inside that bag and completely dry it.

I haven't tried that one specifically, but those products generally don't work on our boats. The jetwash is what kills the wakeface on our boats. That product will do nothing for that. On an inboard, it's totally different, and they generally work. The WakeWedge for our boats deflects the jet wash on the surf side back into the water, which is how it cleans up the face. I suspect that on @bobbie's boat, she's managed to get enough ballast in the boat to keep the surf side jet in the water, or the bow is high enough so the vertical angle of the jetwash is steeper, which is how she gets such a clean wake without the wedge. You definitely will not get anywhere close to a wake like hers on stock ballast, with or without the wedge.
