Just thought I'd say hello. Mostly a inboard towboat mechanic/pontoon mechanic/sterndrive mechanic with a newfound jet boat habit. Stumbled across this site and joined up. Look forward to learning more. To explain the name I attached the pic. Mostly getting hooked on whitewater jet boating but I'm a sucker for knowledge so figured I would "troll" around here too.

Thanks for having me

Wow! Thanks for the welcome. Julian, I am in Boise ID, originally from Olympia WA. Basically a PNW guy. I will figure out how to edit my profile tonight so all can see. Heading to the shop to solve first world problems, one boat at a time.🤣😉

With your background and experience in inboards it would be SO valuable to have your opinion on surfing and other water sports mods - many of us here with young families choose those boats for propless safety, but then modify them for water sports!

Wow. This crew is super active. I'm on a few forums for boats and one for my campers but only one other that isnt brand specific(WakeGarage). Its neat how many people are here with a common interest.

Dont need to overshare or "gush" bit figured since some expressed interest I'd respond and elaborate.

Farm dog, the difference between what I can afford and what I would consider is vastly different as a mechanic. If $ was no object I'd be looking at a Bean Marine, Riddle, or Hells Canyon Marine aluminum jet. What I can afford is a wrecked, sunk, flood damaged, copart, or otherwise "mechanic special".

Jjmparsons, that's one of my favorites. That's the confluence of the Snake and Salmon River. It's a meeting of two different boat clubs on the river(some came up, some came down).

I made good friends with a mechanic at the jetboat shop in town last year and that kicked this whole jet boat thing off. Last winter he did the welding and fabrication(and was his idea) and I just helped with engine/electrical/bilge/trailer work on a mini jet. I attached some pics and some may recognize the hull as a kit. It is and credit where it's due, JetStream is the bees knees.

Thanks for the warm and friendly welcome. Will lurk around, try to help with stuff I know about, and sit back and learn for a lot that I dont. This forum seems to rock!!

Not to be that guy AT ALL but my buddy who is the brains behind the mini idea wants to build some more and sell them. Not trying to be the guy that shows up an solicits, but wanted to throw it out there if anyone is jonesing for a mini. I'm just here to talk about boats.

I'm all about it Swatski. Lots of ballast mod experience so can hopefully help there. Also lots of experience with Lenco and Bennett actuators. Can hopefully help if someone wants to automate. Seems liem wedges/gates/slappers are the go to from what I've seen here. Curious how many people are running lead vs water ballast??

Most run water ballast and the Gatlin transom bag is the king, along with the Gatlin wake wedge!

I've been reading a long thread on the wedge. Also started reading up on the the thrust vector wake. The threads are a few years old and like 50 pages deep so trying to go quick and glance over while still absorbing is a bit tough. Figured I will learn as I go. Kind of curious what hulls/brands/models/lengths have had good results with just ballast and listed setups. In my experience those hulls with devices to delay convergence churn out some of the best waves/wakes.

This is dangerously approaching new thread territory lol

Thanks again for the welcome mat being rolled out.

Welcome @Recoveringfiberglassaddic! Really looking forward to your insight and am enjoying the riverboat pictures! They aren’t a common sight my way, but I find them fascinating!

On the ballast for wake, you will get a million thoughts and opinions, it’s amazing how hard we all work to make our boats surf! (I’m guilty too!) mixed results, being. Honest, we surf enough to have fun with our stock 212X (just ballast) but it’s not quite there yet, still waiting on the WakeBooster which I really hope to get before the snow starts..... but what is interesting is that the delayed convergence tools just haven’t really added up to much for our jets, due to the hull design and unique water flow from the pumps, they don’t seem to have the results that other propulsion systems have, I haven’t tried one myself though due to learnings on this forum, so i’ll Step aside and let a expert take it from here!
