The last couple of times out I noticed the starboard shaft bearings in the pump were noisy and needed to be replaced. Boy oh boy do they ever as you can see in the pics. My port pump pulled right out with a gentle wiggle as it should, my starboard pump --- not so lucky! I've beat it, lubed it, wiggled it, swore at it and it will not move! I've been using a block of wood and a 6 pound hammer to no avail. My next step is to remove the intake grate and beat the impeller backward a little harder than I did today.

Any ideas would help!!

Sorry I can't help and don't mean this to sound like a joke at an inappropriate time, but some of that doesn't even look like it came from the boat. Yikes - what the heck is all that stuff?

I'm not mechanically inclined so that's a view only my dealer would ever see. Hope you get it all fixed up quick - being without a boat sucks, especially in a nice place like Naples...

Is that what was just sitting in the bearing enclosure in a pile? Or is that after you pried it out???? I'd like to see a pic of a normal bearing! Now you have me wondering if I should pull mine off and lube them! What is the maintenance interval for lubing that bearing? #bearings

It was all loose in the cone cover! Major failure!! There are ball bearings that are shattered in 4 to 7 pieces.
Once salt water gets in these cones it's nighty night to your bearing. I will make it a practice to lube once a year going forward.

I "Liked" this post, but that just doesn't seem right! LOL. Great photos though.

I used a rubber mallet to loosen up my pump when I took it off last summer. Didn't like the idea of metal on metal....

Wonder if there is a pump pulling tool or technique Yamaha uses?

I've done some net searching and it seems that there is no tool --- just beating, heat and penetrating oil. So much for my idea of popping these out and shipping them to Riva on the other coast and getting them back in time for the weekend.:(:mad::mad::(

So replacing the bearing is not something your ave Murf can do, or were you going to have them work on the impellers?

@Murf'n'surf I remember reading about someone not able to get one out. It was binding in the splines I think. He had some bad corrosion up in the intermediate and pass thru. Hope the intake angle helps...

I was going to try the bearings but after reading the install instructions I would rather have them done by a pro with the proper tools (press).

Yes sir. Gonna soak that intermediate with PB Blaster tomorrow and start beating!!!

I wacked myself in the forehead with a two by four while pulling it out of the intake grate....ouch!

I think I would just send the assembly in and let them do it! Can't be $50 in labor if it is on their bench. The shipping is another story!

Murf, thanks for the glaring reminder.

It's on the list of things to peek at during spring cleaning.
