I live North of Houston, and just South of the Woodlands. We got hit with heavy rain on Thursday and Friday. People in the area say that it's the worst they've seen in 20 + years. The creek behind our house overflowed its banks, but my house was still a couple feet above the crest, so we didn't flood.
Most of the roads are flooded and closed.
We stupidly left our house yesterday morning to take our son to his soccer tournament. While there, the water continued to rise back at the house. We weren't sure if we would be able to make it back home at the end of the day. Traffic was pure chaos. For the first time in my life, I know the feeling of driving in a Zombie Apocalypse. I learned that my Durango RT has just enough clearance to do a U-turn across a fully-curbed median. I was pretty good at driving in the opposite direction on the hwy 45 service road, and I was a super star when I "merged" onto hwy 45 via the off-ramp because I could see that the road was flooded out about a mile ahead of where I was.
The bright side of all of this is that I think it might help prepare my wife for the #Bimini Crossing.
Here is some great drone footage of the area:

The water level behind our house is about 2 feet lower than when it crested, so the worst is over until we get more rain on Tuesday. Just over a year ago, I suggested to my insurance agent that I might get flood insurance. He said that there was no reason for it because I don't live in a flood zone. Hmmm.
I'm gonna relax in the pool today.

@dustin how's your house?

My mom's house in Forest Cove is flooded almost as bad as in '94 (it's about 3ft lower now but the crest isn't supposed to come until this afternoon),

Flooding is one of the worst to go through, it's been 3 days of watching the water rise an inch at a time, move the furniture, move it again, move it higher, now the house is cut off, just move it to the top level and keep hoping it's going to somehow stop

Wow - sorry to hear about it Mr. Moose and stay safe out there. Too many people try to drive through the water and I know the flash floods are unpredictable.

@Scottintexas , so sorry to hear about your mom. Neighbors have been referencing '94 around here too. I hope that you get things sorted out. I hear more rain is coming Tuesday.

Yes, it has been a lot of fun here in The Woodlands. Fortunately, most roads are opening today and things are slowly returning to normal.

Lake Conroe is still closed to motorized traffic, tho.

Ugly. We flooded during Allison, but nothing like that (only 6 inches). And that created plenty of mess. One whole story--that takes it to a new level. But still the same as to this point: until the water is gone, you are absolutely helpless to do anything. Horrible feeling.

Let us know if there is something with which we can help, especially once y'all get back in.

Hope everyone stays dry up north, I live near the energy corridor and we also had our fare share of rain, Addicks Dam is near full capacity, and is making my neighbors and I very nervous.

Hope you guys survive the flooding. I lived in and around Houston for 50 years and know how bad the flooding can be since the land becomes saturated and there is nowhere for the water to go but "up". I think I would get flood insurance since it is relatively cheap if you aren't in a flood zone--in FL, on a fresh water canal, I only pay $450 a year for $250K building and $100K contents-the most the government program offers. Good luck...

@MrMoose @Scottintexas , I'm sorry that this has happened to you and hope you each get the best outcome possible as soon as possible. I saw a 30 second blurb about it on the news last night but I couldn't really relate to it (it didn't really really stick) until I read this string of posts. That is, until it involved people I "know".

@Crlos16 , we will keep a good thought out for you up here. Looks like more rain heading our way today--hopefully nothing heavy and we can all stay dry at home. Fortunately, up here in The Woodlands most of the impact has been to the roads. We had friends park in our driveway overnight and walk home through the water. That is not half as bad as having it in your house (and there have been some up here affected that way, of course).

But house is high and dry! They had the West Lake Houston bridge over the San Jac into kingwood closed due to high water, If your from the area then you have an idea just how high the water has gotten. I was looking at the weather and I looks like rain for the rest of this week.

Ya, I just hope that the rate is lower than what we got last Thursday/Friday. I checked the on-line stats from the local weather stations. It looks like The Woodlands got over 13 inches in 2 days, while much of Houston got less than half that. The water level of the creek behind my house (Willow Creek) was back to normal within 12 hrs of cresting, so I hope that the system has regenerated some buffer for the upcoming rain. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure how this got there, but I'm sure that it had something to do with last weekend's flood. I took this pic this morning. The boat was on the road near my son's soccer fields. There's a boat dealership nearby. Not sure if it floated off on its own, or whether it got hung up while moving people during the flood. Flood Boat.jpg
