Hey fellow boaters. It looks like I will be trying my luck with this new little toy I bought today (96' Sugar Sand Heat). Thanks in advance for the posts on the issues I will be facing as I get ready to put this thing in the water for the first time. I have no owners manual nor do I know anything about motors except for the basic spark plug, oil change programs. The little thing looks fun but getting stranded on the intercoastal waterway down here in Boca Raton, Fl. wont be. Wish me luck. Any advice other than a can of Sea Foam, new plugs, check the oil pump, check the impeller would be greatly appreciated. It actually started in my driveway with the hose hooked up but wouldn't stay idling. Didn't want to run it for too long until I can take it to the mechanic. Any advice on what I should ask him to check out? Thanks.

Welcome aboard @bigguy1958 , Don't know much about the Heat but I think you have the 120 hp Force outboard based motor. Here's a link to manuals http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/120xr2_sportjet.html#/0 or http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/90-120_sportjet.html#/0 Also you need to be careful running those on the hose. I remember seeing something about blowing the ride plate off due to unburned fuel buildup in the exhaust I think water must be turned on before the ignition if I recall. Better research it a bit to be sure. A lot were also converted to premix as the oil pump has a plastic drive gear that tends break Sorry I can't be of a little more specific help.
