I'm picking my boat up next Saturday and was wondering what the engine break in process is.. I'm sure the dealer will have some insight on this, but what actually works? Also, Ive seen some motors with what looks like a factory or dealer installed fogging port that is mounted on the engine cover. Is this something any of you have, and would you recommend it? Ive heard both sides of the argument against fogging every time when its in the salt, and not fogging at all... I know most of you guys are in Florida and are in the salt a bunch...what do you guys do? Sorry for all the questions, this is my first new boat (first boat that I can't just "park" on the beach at full throttle and not care) and I want to take care of it..

Those fogging ports are something most dealers down here in Florida put in cuz we have to deal with the saltwater. The idea is it Lube the inside going through the air intake. Every time I flush my boat out I put three or four squirts in the engine through the fogger. As far as the break-in It is everything a chance to smooth itself down as far as the crank, cam ect also gets the piston rings time to seat properly.

See attached for break in, same for 190 FSH.
As for saltwater fogging, never heard of it, I have never done it. Never seen a need for ithe in South Florida.
Boating in South florida saltwater all the time, clean and flush engine with saltaway.

Fogging is if the boat will be sitting for long periods of time. Do not do it after each use....

That's where my question comes from. I'm getting a 50/50 on fog after saltwater use and don't. Even in this chain....I've had dealers say to fog (not like you would for a winterization) but a few squirts to lube it up after every saltwater use, hence the instillation of the port. I guess I'll stick with the Yamaha recommendation. At the very least they owe me 5 years of warranty.
