Yep, that is it. (sorry--the only one I had to go from was a Win10 device manager, so the wording was slightly different) Bet you have no issues now. Do let us know how it goes.

I know this post is super late (based on this convo starting in 2104) but does anyone in Florida have the software and cable? I would love to see what the hours are on the used boat I bought. I would also like to see if there are any error codes. I am in the Orlando area.

I'm in Orlando and have the cable and software you can use.

FYI,
For those with more 'senior' engines like mine, the software (v1.33) can't read total hours more than 655.3. I believe this is because the software uses an unsigned 16-bit integer to hold the hours variable, which can only store a value up to 65535. If this happens to you, just add up the rpm break down of hours (assuming of course an individual range of rpm hours doesn't exceed 655.3).
My engines had around 780 hours in the attached pic, which shows 655.3 hours.

Thanks for reporting that @cdave2000 . I'll keep that in mind but I have a ways to go as I am only at about 500 hours.
Have you had any issues with your engines?

No issues, engines run great! Oil change and new spark plugs every year is all I do.

So I'm stuck, I got the cable, installed the software but I don't have a DVD/CD drive on this laptop (it's an old Win 7 that I reformatted just for this). I got around that by copying the software and installing it locally but when I run the database update it seems to want me to insert the disc. Is the update a web update or update from the CD? I went ahead and tried to run the software on the boat, I got the cable to light up by bumping the starter but I couldn't get the COM thing figured out, it was getting dark, I was rushing, and decided I would try again tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Trying to remember how I did this.... I had a Surface (no CD drive), so I think that I put the disk into one of the other machines on the network, mapped a network drive to it on the Surface, and then installed and did the database update that way (referring to the drive letter assigned by mapping the drive).

There was a trick to the COM thing. I am sure it is here somewhere, but I don't remember it...

Oh, here it is...
One thing that I discovered through fellow Jetboaters was that my YDS wouldn't work unless I had it set to run on com port 1. I'm not computer savvy at all but I would get the dreaded "communication error" until I switched my computer to run it on com port 1.

PS. I'm willing to help anybody out with a YDS reading too if you're in my area.

So here's the process I've used so far. And, shocker, it's straight from the read me. I don't have a CD/DVD in this laptop so I had to download two utilities to help, one to make an .ISO file of the CD on another computer. I used http://www.magiciso.com/, it's free and easy. Put the CD in, make an .ISO file from the CD, put the .ISO file on a thumb drive and moved it to my laptop. Then I used WinCDEmu to read the .ISO and make it a mountable CD, you can assign it a Drive Letter and it will remain mounted. Then follow the Read Me, 1- Install Driver, 2-Connect adapter to USB, 3, and this part took a second to figure out, plug the adapter in to USB and go to the Device Manager under the Properties in My Computer. It takes a second for the Device Manager to load the adapter, first it appears as a USB device, then a USB to Serial and finally as a PORT/COM device. Once it appears there you can right click on it, select Properties, click on the PORT tab, select Advanced and change the COM Port to COM 1. Hope it helps!

Wow, what a surprise. I recently bought a 2007 AR210 from a really nice man that seemed to have kept the boat in fantastic shape. He estimated the engines probably had 400 hours on them but hadn't had the local service outfit check, so just his best guess. I pulled the numbers today and about dropped the laptop, 171 hours. The engines look good for a reason, one, he was maticulous, but even more so because they've been lightly used since he bought the boat new. The other good piece of news was the low hours in the 8000-10000 range, 0.3 hours! I've probably done half of that, after letting the engines warm up I usually do a nice gentle run up to 8200 or so.

Updated instructions to say that you can just bump the starters and it will read engine info (like hours). Of course you wont get engine operating information....but most people doing this are only looking for hours and fault codes....

@asevie , these engines were designed, and derated as a matter of fact, from their design top rpm. Don't hesitate to run the at wide open throttle. Like you, and the previous owner of your boat, I didn't run my boat at WOT too much. But this past year, we took the boat to Lake Powell before we sold it. And ran several hours straight at WOT. It ran great and it won't hurt the engines as long as they are maintained properly. So...light em up!

The previous owner had ordered the cable but never used. The disk does not have YDS software. It has a program called VAG-COM "the first aftermarket tool which supports 7-Digit SKC codes and is able to access modules requiring proprietary VAG modes on the KWP-2000 protocol". I think I would be asking for MAJOR trouble trying to read engines with it; but still curious if he was perhaps two steps ahead in the mega-mod/tune world. Anyone hear of it? Also, can anyone confirm this is the correct software version for my 2006 SX210? http://www.ebay.com/itm/YDS-Diagnostic-1-33-Software-for-Yamaha-Outboard-Jet-Boat-WaveRunner-/272253409137IMG_1803.JPG

Dang. Again, no time to go read the whole thread to see how this came up.

But, @Seadeals , vag-com (now VCDS) is VW/Audi diagnostic software. I've got 3 different cables, use it 10 times a day every day probably. AMAZING software, if you fix VW's for a living. Or own one.

@Seadeals v1.33 is the newer version, I have the older v.1.32

I believe the newer version was put out for the 1.8L and accepts operating systems up to windows 8, it will read down to your MR1 though.

V1.32 only works for mr1 engines and up to windows XP.

Looking to see if there is anyone in the new Orleans area that could assist me in getting my yds to communicate with the ecm. I have read all 5 pages on here and tried every trick and get the same result.

Yes. Set it to com port 1 in device manager. If it helps I'm running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on a Panasonic cf-31 toughbook. I have 4 usb ports. I tried all of them.
