Looking for some insight as I contemplate changing trailers. Only been about a year and the salt water is really tearing up my Scarab powder coated steel trailer. I have been chasing the rust with sand paper and rust inhibitors but it's to fast and tedious to keep up with. Anybody have suggestions on best aluminum setup and brand? At only 21' Stability is fine with the single axel. Are there more advantages to tandem other than safety in a blow out?? As I weigh my options I'm wondering if I should run it until it's total junk, or is it worth trying to sell to someone in north Florida running on fresh water??

It is a steel trailer in Florida,....get it sold ASAP! Any aluminum or galvanized trailer will work fine.

I have an aluminum Yacht Club trailer. I had the dealer switch the trailer out from the steel trailer when I bought it. It cost a little extra but it was worth it. I run saltwater and I also wanted twin axle since I haul long distance a couple of times a year. It wasn't an absolute perfect fit but it's pretty good. The boat gets a little closer to the wheel wells than I would prefer but it has never hit them even with some crappy trailering episodes. I also added a couple of bunks further up the bow (added after these photos) that are pretty close together to help with centering the bow when trailering. Those were a big improvement. And I added a couple of short guides to the back of the trailer to keep the stern centered when pulling out of the water. I also moved the winch back a little since the handle would strike the boat just barely when snugging it up to the limit. I'll try to take a current picture of the trailer boat off in the next few days.

Thanks much for the info! Looks like a good setup. Funny you mention adding the front bunks , I have been contemplating a new trailer and I for sure want the smaller front bunks as I rely on them a great deal. I consider them critical for safely driving the boat up on the trailer. I haven't decided on the twin axel yet because my existing setup just barely fits in my garage. I don't do too many long hauls so I'm considering my options. I haven't finished my research so I'm not sure the aluminum trailers have the fold away tongue but if they do, I would want that. I would be very interested in pics of your setup with the additional bunks and short guides as I will prob use it when negotiating a trailer.
Again, thanks very much for taking the time to provide this info, I appreciate it!

Here ya go. I don't think I've seen an aluminum with a fold away tongue. I would have like to have had that also, but haven't really missed it like I thought. This was the only trailer the dealer had that was suitable to swap the Scarab onto.

Wow, Looks excellent! I like the short guides on the end rather than on top of the fenders like mine. Again, thanks a bunch for taking the Time to post! I saved the pics and will most definitely use them to help with the new purchase.
