I just purchased my 2017 Yamaha 190 FSH and took it out this weekend. Everything performed nicely, except for ine of my speakers, kept rattling. No biggie. Afterwards I wanted to give it a quick wash. I immediately noticed water standing inside the boat and not draining from the 2 exit holes near the back? I removed the seats and looked inside. Water was leaking into the battery compartment on one side and I had another leak under the other seat as well. I noticed that the leaks where plain as day and caused by the placement of the drain holes. No seals or anything, just holes! I sealed everything myself because the dealership would have take days to repair. After fixing, I again sprayed my boat down for a wash. Still water was standing, no leaks though. Again I looked around and figured out that the one way drain plug was installed the wrong way!!! I had to reverse the entire hose on both sides. Very infuriating considering the amount of money I paid for a new boat! This boat should be completely water proof at the factory, consumers should not have to deal with this. Anyway if amyone is having problems with water not draining from the boat, check the one way flow valves on each side.

Wow, sorry you had to fix so many issues on your FSH but thank you for sharing the info with others who will likely find it helpful.

Welcome to the group. Most of us are all having lots of fun on our boats...and fixing more than our share of things in our spare time that the factory should have handled.
Enjoy!

I agree, great fun! But considering the 30k it is frustrating, no matter how small the problem. I hope Yamaha makes the repairs, they are minor and would make the boat truly superior to other boats like it.

There are plenty of posts about water leakage on the FSH. You may want to check your wet-locker seals too. I placed this on the forum not too long ago and found the silicone around the hatch leading into the engine compartment was not up to the job.

Will do! I saw that post. I've done alot of repairs so far. Only had the boat for 2 weeks now, brand new. Another problem I found is that when the stereo system was on, you could hear rattling coming from outside the console. I thought the speakers where bad? Turns out it was the rod holders. If you take them off there's 4 bolts that where not secured! I'm really upset about the craftsmanship you get for 30+K. Good thing I'm handy.

I've had a good response with letters to the person in charge of various places and now I'm gonna try my hand with the President of Yamaha USA. Maybe if more of us wrote we'd see some feedback in our favor?

While you're working on the console, I thought I'd throw in some more work for you! :dead:

I kid...

But I like a finished look so I added these to those sharp exposed screw ends inside the console:
uxcell 3mm Inner Dia Rubber Hose End Cap Screw Thread Protector Cover Black 100pcs

With my little girl in there using the head or a friend visiting, all I need is a laceration on the hand to screw up the day at the beach. They're sharp and they stick right out!
One with the cover, one without, to show the difference. And when you step into the room, these nasty screws always caught my leg.

Also, I like a backup so oars were needed. I mounted them with oar mounts and used heavy duty liquid nails like I did with my transponder. Clean and out of the way:

I'm going to write/call Yamaha USA as well. I think there is power in numbers and while we may not get restitution, at least others won't have to go through a brand new boat with a fine tooth comb. I like the repairs you did with the screws! I was going to put a couple oars on the boat as well, but I have and pay for unlimited sea tow lol. On a positive note, I have to say, the one good thing about the boat is the complements we get. Everyone loves the way it looks! Also the engine. Performance is great so far.

Ditto on the looks and the engine. I got a nice compliment on the FSH at the launch ramp yesterday. Didn't hurt that I loaded it up on the trailer and go out of there in record time on a Saturday at 6pm!

There is no doubt that our FSH's are a mixed bag. I really wonder if Yamaha considers them to be a budget-end boat and doesn't sweat the details. You do get a lot for the money with everything included and the most of us are buying the engine / jet platform for a reason. That being said, I have mentioned before that doing it right the first time - especially with the drains and wash out ports, clean-up and finish details - would be so easy at the factory and would remove a HUGE source of customer complaints and bad publicity. It is a small change in the manufacturing process and procedure - this is not rocket science.

At the end of the day, I still love the platform, and will continue to modify and do Yamaha's factory work to get the boat as water tight as possible, fix the rough spots and enjoy my boat. Thanks to all on the Jetboater's site for the great information and insight.

Finally, it is a shame that Yamaha continues to seemingly ignore the feedback from its customers. They have a potential blockbuster platform as it is extended into the longer versions if they would pay a little more attention. Do they do factory tours? Maybe a group could take one and point out the problems in person? We can dream.

Summers coming - have fun and be safe.

I am writing the letter today to:

Dean Burnett, President
Yamaha Motor Corporation, Watercraft Group
1270 Chastain Road
Kennesaw, Georgia,30144

It's not a bitching and moaning letter. It's a letter respectfully asking him to pay attention to the owners and the quality coming out of the manufacturing center with specific reference to the Jetboaters.net forums and my personal experiences.

Sounds like a great idea. Please do it.
I'm going to shoot one off too. I've documented everything wrong with mine and never fixed a thing myself. Had the dealer do it... So I have it all documented by the dealer.

You guys should see the repair/work order. It's pretty lengthy.

I am having exactly the same issue. Zero draining from the deck even when stick a hose in the drain directly. Unbelievable! I am new to this site but have found it extremely helpful already. Thanks for your post.

@Kahuna Khris - Be sure to check out the orientation of the check valves (one of mine was in the wrong position). My port side drain also had so much extra hose that the water had to flow up hill before even getting to the valve. I just went ahead and re-did both deck drains. Re-sealed each fitting using Butyl tape, which should eliminate the dripping behind the jump seats and re-sealed the hull fitting as well (but dont think that was leaking), I just had it off and figured why not.

FYI - this is probably the hardest thing I have done to this boat. It is a tight space and those hoses are on there good 'n tight. Plenty of cussing. Another lesson learned is wear some gloves. Long story short, if you see blood its not the boat :) (literally took me a few seconds to figure that out)

Here is a video of how your drains need to be oriented to drain properly. One of mine was basically upside down. Even if you dont want to disassemble the entire unit they are pretty easy to adjust. Just grab the black part and rotate it until it says "top" on top (you probably dont even need to loosen the clamps, but wouldn't hurt).

Also posted some more details under this thread. https://jetboaters.net/threads/deck-washdown-mod-no-more-standing-water.9210/

I was having the same issue and checked for the reverse check valves. What I actually found was that the valves were stuck. I cut a wire coat hanger to use as a probe, rounded over one end of the wire so it wouldn't damage anything inside, and stuck it down the drains. Valves both unstuck and no more problem.
