Milestone birthdays - What did you do?

I have a milestone birthday coming up this weekend so it got me thinking... What did everyone do for their's (20, 30, 40, 50, etc.)?

My 60th was awesome. I spent my birthday in an AH-64 on the gunnery range outside of Boise, Idaho. Day shoots, nights shoots....spent my entire birthday qualifying. Got to shoot up all kinds of shit and fly all different flight attitudes and scenarios! Pretty cool for an old fart!

My 21st was typical, hit the bars "legally" for the first time with my fraternity brothers. Nothing overly dramatic, just a night out with the guys.

My 30th I don't remember much of however there's video evidence floating around that my wife is using as extortion for my 40th coming up She pulled the BEST surprise party ever! At that time several of my friends were into bowling so on Friday night we went to their house to meet them to go hit the lanes. Even when we pulled up and there were cars all the way around the cul-de-sac and down the street I was till so oblivious to what was going on. My exact words were "wow, there's a lot of people going bowling tonight..." As we went up on the porch I opened the door for her as I always do as the gentleman that I am but she just stood there waiting on me to go first. I literally stood there for like 20 seconds holding the door waiting on her not realizing what was waiting on the other side or why she was just standing their staring at me like I was an idiot. I'm not one to fool very easily but it was the biggest and best surprise I've ever had! It felt like one of those parties you see in a movie where they start out fairly small and then by the end of the night there's 100's of people there that nobody knows. I think there's evidence of me in a pink
tutu with birthday hats on my chest like a bra all Madonna style and what not. Hopefully they don't make an appearance for my 40th this year.

21st - Early dinner with family. Later, hit a house party, boozed it up and got laid.
30th - I was born on my grandfather's birthday and this was his 75th; and my uncle's was 3 days later, it was his 50th...all milestone birthdays. My mom hosted an elegant dinner party, the whole family was in attendance and family photo's were taken. Six months later, my mom unsuspectingly lost her life at age 47.
40th - An uneventful day at FOB Speicher, Tikrit, Iraq.
50th - This one happened a few months ago. I had been married for little more than a month. I didn't know it, but my new bride had been planning a surprise birthday party for me for months. I thought we were going out for a quiet dinner, but as we're driving she wants to take a detour to the club house. I walk in to a hall full of family, friends and neighbors going all the way back to grammar school. The night was full of good people, good food, good drink and good music. Wife knocked it out of the park.

Happy early birthday! My 30th is coming up in a couple weeks; on a Saturday, which is awesome. Right now the plan is to go to the lake for the weekend and boat during the day and drink at night. Hopefully I'll have good weather

On my 18th birthday, I got laid
On my 21st birthday, I got drunk AND laid
On my 30th birthday, I got married and got laid
On my 40th birthday, I dreamed about being single and getting laid
On my 50th birthday, I bought a new boat, went out on the water and it felt like getting laid!!!

Beats any birthday I ever had

I've never done anything special for any of my birthdays.
One that I actually remember was my 36th or 37thish, I took the day off and went dirt bike riding by myself.

My wife turns 40 in August, I'd like to do something memorable for her....

Buy her a new boat

I don't remember most of my "milestone" birthdays except for last year. It was my 40th! Last year was a first summer with our cruiser and my birthday just happened to fall on a Saturday which is our primary lake day. We were making breakfast on the dock and I was getting things ready to go out, which means leave the marina. Then out of nowhere one of my cousins and his wife appeared in front of me. A first of many surprises for the day. We all anchored up and tied up together at our normal spot. We ended up with at least 20 large boats all tied together in a row. It was awesome! We did our normal thing of listening to music and having a few cold adult beverages and enjoying the day. We then all peeled off and headed back to the marina towards the evening time and I got our boat docked. Once we were in the slip I realized that my wife's parents were there cooking dinner and there were a few more friends that my dear wife had arranged for them to be there. She's awesome and definitely a keeper! It was a great party.

For my wife's 40th she wanted to take a trip to a place that neither one of us had been to. She narrowed it down to either Vegas or New York City. We picked NYC. It was a fun time and we really enjoyed our time together without our kids. We saw most of the tourist sites and lucked out with great weather in late November. We'll probably go again in a few years and take the kids. It's a cool city with a TON of people, but it's a neat place to experience.

I usually cook a nice steak. I buy a really nice bottle of scotch and smoke a nice cigar. Wife usually treats me well.

We just celebrated the wife's milestone.
(1st anniversary of her 29th birthday)

Took her to New Orleans for a "little" shopping spree.


I'd love to tell you about my 21st b-day but I can't remember it. I just know it started at a strip club and no one came back and told me they were pregnant... so we'll call it a success!

30th - I had to work (ambulance) but the wife had just started really learning how to cook and made me two cakes that looked just like breast, with flesh colored fondue, with areolas and nips. Then ahe dropped it off at the station. That was pretty cool.

Plans for my 40th are to visit Dublin, Ireland, go to the Guinness brewery and become certified to professionally pour a pint of that liquid gold!
