I just googled cooking with aluminum foil and lot's of info on why you should not cook with foil.

Foil is not suitable for cooking and is not suitable for using with vegetables like tomatoes, citrus juice or spices.” On the other hand, the researchers also noted thatfoil can be considered safe to wrap cold foods, since no leaching was observed without heating.

Cooking foods with low pH (acidic) like citrus juice or strong vinaigrette in aluminum foil - probably not the best as they will also discolor, but the Alzheimer's link has been generally discredited. One also needs to keep in mind that, on balance, aluminum foil protects the food from direct heat/flames which helps prevents many aromatic compounds from forming, and those ARE a health hazard.

EDIT: Here is what we do though albeit not involving grilling. This is my Italian MIL #1 ingredient of a successful picnic: hard boiled eggs.

It is brilliant. Leave shells at home, all you need is a tiny salt shaker. No mess, kids love it.

I must be the only person that doesn't enjoy prepping and/or cooking on the boat. I do enjoy eating on the boat though. Most grilling for us is hotdogs or something tremendously easy. If it's more than that we bring it from home already prepared ready to eat.

This is from the Alzheimer's Associations website For what its worth...

Myth 4: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reality: During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.

I thought about this thread when we were out yesterday. We took some small red potatoes and cut in half. Add seasonings, onions, peppers, a little cheeses, etc. and wrap in foil. Wrap enough that you can flip the foil pack without having anything leak out. Delicious.

We also do something similar with the same potatoes, pierogies, and sour kraut. Add onions or whatever you like.

I thought yesterday that I can't imagine dealing with prepping chicken or some other messy food.

For dinner last night on the 4th, we had baby back ribs on the boat. We love grilling this way on the boat. My wife did all the messy cooking pre boating on the Primo ceramic grill with cowboy hardwood lump charcoal and when done she wrapped them up in foil and a towel and put them in a designated "hot" cooler. It saves a lot of grilling of the ribs and we only had to cook the zucchini on the boat and reheat the ribs.

Fish! Take your fish fillets and place them in tin foil, add butter and some lemon pepper. Fold the tin foil in half, fold the ends and then fold the top. Grill ready, no mess. This is the only way I eat fish now

Try using mayo sometime, it works like butter and adds a different flavor. MAYO not Miracle Whip.

Grilling marinated skewered chicken and veggies on the magma, we use skewers a lot.
20170821_144419.jpg Useful when you do not bring tongs.
