Ok, so let me try to be as clear as possible without knowing much about this topic. So if I am a little bit vague, please forgive me.

Here's the deal: last summer I was abls to obtain approx 50-52 mph (on the speedo, I know that's not accurate) but I've noticed more and more lately that I'm LUCKY to get to 45 (again, using the speedo as a benchmark Guage).

Took a buddy out who has an older LS model and he swears its either a combination of my impellers, wear rings or both.

I've been researching like crazy here since Sunday and my brain is like a fried egg.

I'm thinking I'd like to go with the plastic inserts (wear rings??) but can someone/anyone point me in the right direction.

I was looking into changing out the impellers while I had the opportunity to and my mind is completely boggled (so many options, choices, pitch, etc etc) looking over everything... HELP!!!

And lastly, I could have sworn that I saw a thread a while back on removing the pumps but for the life of me cannot locate it now... Again - fried mind theory.

Any/all help is appreciated. I'd love to have #LiquidTherapy running at her peak performance again soon.

Cheers!

Do you have any impeller noise? I doubt it's your wear ring because they normally get tighter. The impeller will wear down if your driving through a lot of shallow water sucking up sand. I went with the removeable liner but I can't remember the site off hand but I did post about it on this sight. $80 per pump but terrible about shipping out in time. Also what rpms are you getting. The is a nob under the dash to adjust your speedo. But I wouldn't worry too much about that without gps. I have heard these boats will run that fast with one fouled plug. Always start with plugs with these boats. Check to make sure your filter is clean

without pictures or obvious damage I would only change impellers first, are you turning 10K rpm? maybe you need a plug change?
for 5 mph I wouldn't worry about it, for 10 mph or cavitation I would change them,

Thanks for the help, it is appreciated.

@Marvin willis To briefly answer, there is no impeller noise. I'm going to download a GPS speed app to my phone and try it out this weekend. Maybe that'll help narrow down the root cause. And I'll double check my plugs and filter. Thanks for the advice.

@Scottintexas, thank you for the links. I'm still turning just over 10k rpm on both motors and zero cavitation.

Lastly...any plug recommendations if mine are bad?

Get the plugs online from advanced and google the coupon 20-30% off. Around $15 for 4 plugs

So, this weekend I used a GPS speedometer and I was able to obtain 45 mph. I wish I had done that last summer so I could see exactly what the difference would be...but if I'm not mistaken most people with the SX230 are really only getting about 48 mph?

IMHO depending on wind, weight and everything else anywhere from 42-52mph is totally acceptable,

As little as I run my boat wide open (and when I do it's not like I'm racing somebody for a position at the dock) it's not worth it to worry about a couple of mph's

Well I believe your opinion is spot on - wind, weight and water conditions definitely affect top end.

When I measured the speed, there was no wind, water was flat and calm and I was going with the current...
I rarely open her up...but I have lately due to my thoughts on something being out of whack.

Hello,
I have recently purchased a 2009 AR230 and I am having a few small issues with it! One of the issues is that I have noticed a chatter on the STB engine as opposed to the port. So while running the port engine will give me 11,000 rpm all day and the STB will only give me shots of upper 10k but generally is only producing around 9200rpm. I have read this post above and I am going to try the spark plugs on this unit first! I was told upon purchase they were changed before I bought it but I am doubt full of this due to the condition of the boat! Is there anything else other than plugs and wear rings that may be an issue to look for while I am in there?

Glad to have you on board,
next time you may consider starting a new post with your issue rather than adding to another thread, many times with an older thread members may not bother to look at it thinking they don't want/need to be involved in the discussion whereas if they see it's new post it would get a lot more views,

I would suggest you buy a YDS unit to read what the engines are actually doing,
an MR1 engine should not be turning 11k about 10,200 is tops,

how long have you owned the boat?
Did you replace the engine or a previous owner?

check out the "known issues" link in my signature below for your boat and the FAQ tab at the top of the page has many great tips to help solve problems,

Thank you! I will start a new one if the issue with the plugs doesn't resolve anything! I know the engines have not been replaced as I know the original owner and the last owner somewhat. I have only had the boat since December and have just started running it around May as it was in the shop getting new seat covers! I have only taken this unit out about 6 times since I have owned it however the original owner and I used to use this boat on the regular when it was new! I will look into the YDS as well!
Thanks Again!

I'm sorry when I read your original post and saw "STB engine" I read that as SBT, the name of a company that sells rebuilt engines, not as Starboard,

keep us updated on your progress,
