So installed JL speakers, sub, and amp two years ago and we love the system. My problem is that I installed the sub directly underneath the binnacles (throttles) on the starboard cabin interior area. It sounds good and no complaints other than one...with the stereo turned up, the sub hits hard enough that my throttles vibrate and pull themselves back down while under way. The faster you are going the worse the effect. I've adjusted the tensioner on the throttles but it doesn't seem to matter, they vibrate causing them to move, which causes the boat to decelerate. It really is a pain during water sports.
So my question is this...any advice on relocation? Creative ways to cover up the hole left in the fiberglass from relocation? I've looked for porthole covers but can't find one big enough.

Does JL make a grill you could install over the hole with no sub behind it?

Not that I can find. I can't find the thread but seems like a long time ago I remember somebody else covering up a sub hole with some type of cover.

That's exactly what I did I got on eBay in ordered a replacement grill moved my sub woffer out put in a box and use the grill to cover the hole. In fact I liked it so much I did it on the other side as well. 20170128_145542.jpg 20170128_145537.jpg 20170204_123109.jpg

You could just put a cheap sub and grill in there and not hook it up. But before you move the sub have you done @Speedling throttle drop fix? Not just adjusting the screws but rather what this link below lays out. Worked like a charm for me. I did pinch the forks together as opposed to applying tape.

No problem with my throttles dropping if the stereo isn't turned up, so this wouldn't help me. Did this same fix to our last boat and thanks to Speedling for coming up with it, works great.

Do you like the sound of your sub inside your seat compartment? Does it cause any adverse issues? I would have to change the grill of my sub but that may work. I would love to have a cleaner sound (less vibration). All of the vibration makes me think of those $500 civics with a $5000 sound system that sounds like body panels are about to fall off...

Exactly which model of JL Audio subwoofer are you using?

I added a 10" JL M-Series sub to mine and didn't like to the stock Polk sub or location so I just unhooked it and left it there.

I did this a long time ago... wood surround covered in matching vinyl with a black steel grill behind it.
