I made a mount for my transducer. Cut (3) 1/2" blocks of starboard, epoxied them together, then ground down the angle to fit the angle on the step at the transom, then used 3M 5200 to glue it to the bottom of the boat. Therefore the transducer should be aimed straight down and in clean water at all times.

I think the pictures show it closer to the strake, than it actually is, plus I can move the actual transducer more than 3" away from the strake once mounted.. thats one reason I used 5200 to put it on the boat.. I can remove it and move it if necessary without leaving holes in the hull.

....and the step causes aerated water too. How does this solve the problem over a standard hanging transom mounted transducer? Seriously asking as I am looking for an optimal mount myself.

My idea was to get the transducer below the step. By mounting it on the transom, it was always in turbulent water, but by reducing the step and mounting the transducer level with the water coming off the step I figured I could get it in clean water to read at speed. I'll let you know how well it works over the weekend.

Give it a try and see how it works. Probably will work well.

Yes, do post a photo of it mounted and let us know how it does.
Most of us with the factory trailer have the single RH bunk board right where you're mounting your transducer.
You might be right behind the livewell thru-hull fitting. Hopefully no turbulence from that.
Best of luck.

That's exactly what I was planning to do. Ordered some scrap starboard off eBay last week. Going to angle, etc...

True to keep it away from the strake, but I think you are on the right track.

If you mount it closer to the side of your drain plug, it should be ok. That will keep it away from the live well pickup hidden above the bunk.

Good job!

You should get a good picture. I went through a couple of different placements till I got this right. The step behind the transom generated a lot of turbulence at 18 knots. Definitely want to keep it a few inches below it.
Here is the original post with some pics if you didn't already see it:

@kthrash

Do you have side scan/side view?
No I, only have downscan on the rear of the boat.. when I get my trolling motor installed I will put a Side Scan on the front of the boat.

Do you have any pictures of the final transducer install, I have the same unit and I'm still researching the best way to install this!
