Folks

You may have seen the post last week, but I put seadek down on the swim platform.

Come back to the boat this week, to finish the job and notice that I have a couple of "burn" marks where the material has clearly gotten hot from a refelection. See the attached pictures.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? How did you fix it?

I have to call the folks at JetBoatPilot to figure it out too and I'll let you know what they say,IMG_3975.jpg IMG_3976.jpg IMG_3977.jpg IMG_3978.jpg

This is a new one on me....I've read about burns from the table leg holder bracket, but not from refections from just the gel coat (or do you think there was metal involved?).

Not sure there is any way to prevent gel coat reflections (that you'd want to do any way).

We have the remote radio control (which has a chrome surround) but the swim platform, and we have the chrome tow hook on the rear by the step mat...thats the only metal close by.

I've had melted hydroturf from leaving a water bottle on the swim platform. The sun has to come in through the plastic and water at the right angle to amplify the light like a magnifying glass.

I have some of the same marks in the same spots. I don't know of anything that can be done to fix it / avoid it happening. @JetBoatPilot may warranty the pieces and offer replacement, but I'm not interested in the work to pull it up and replace it just yet...

It looks like the tow attachment is chrome and caused the burn. I would try and sand the tow point with a 3M pad to lessen the amount of light reflected.

Just curious, are these "burns" being caused during normal use or are the boats experiencing these problems being stored outside when not jn use?

Update: I installed the rest of the SeaDek into the boat this past weekend. I think the burns were caused where I stored the boat for a week (with no cover on). The stern was facing due east and would get the full force of the rising South Florida sun in the morning.

I spoke with Will and the team at JetBoatPilot and they are replacing the two pads under warranty. They recommended that I add some mitigation pads in these reflective areas, also. I'll let you know how that all turns out! Fantastic people to deal with by the way.

Here is a picture of the complete install. Now I just have to replace those last couple pieces...

@john94si, WOW! Thats the worst I've seen Seadek react to heat and light. I guess I'm really lucky that when not in use our boat is shaded in a garage. But would hate to deal with that in after a day out in the blazing sun, and we have blazing sun down here.:(

Yea they have sent me new piece to replace it but they recommend i go with a lighter color which i do not want or their side reflective pieces.. I am in a very hot area but i keep it under the cover most all the time.. Needless to say I have learned not to use the dark colors even if the factory does.

If you are willing to try to tell if it's light or heat, maybe cover just that piece with a towel or cardboard or something to keep the light away while it is stored, and see if it helps? Cumbersome, but thought it was worth sharing. Bummer.

I knew that hydroturf would sunburn from any reflective source but did not know that seadeck would. What is worse, is that on the hydroturf, the only sunburn I had heard about was caused by the chromed table mount on the swim deck. Now I am reading that even curved areas of the fiberglass can focus reflected light and burn seadeck? That is not good news. Maybe it is a color thing? Sounds like the darker colors are the issue?
