I was cleaning up the boat from vacation and found a knot on my tire. Actually, the tire has this knot and 2 other really small knots. I have not checked the inside of the tire or the other tire, but I 'll be calling Shoreland'r today....

I already was upset with the tires. I filled the tires to the spec. pressure before I left for vacation and then when I got there the I noticed the tires where low on pressure. Towed from Raleigh to Myrtle Beach (150 miles each way).

I've seen posts on here where people have there tires replaced.. I believe they contacted tire manufacture not shorelander but I could be mistaken..

@Eric Ballard thats terrible. However, you're pretty lucky to see that before it blew out and took the fender and side of the boat with it.

There is a thread on here about guys contacting Carslile directly and having success.

The Carlisle tires that come with the trailer are terrible if you're doing anything more than a couple of miles to the water each way. I replaced mine with Maxxis after the first trip.

I suspect that Carlisle will respond that it could be road damage.

If you take the wheels off of the trailer Walmart will mount Goodyear radial trailer tires for around $100 each.

I have put 6,000+ miles on Goodyear Radials in a little over a year. They still look like new.

I wouldn't worry about calling anyone but a tire shop...

Get radials! I wouldn't waste your time calling Shorelander, call the tire manufacturer!

I have 2009 Goodyear Marathons with probably 7-8k miles on them (6,344 since I got my truck which logs the miles). If you plan to take it on trips, the radial upgrade is well worth it. They have seen lots of paving project bumps at speed, potholes and a few curb kisses/hops (Yes, I CAN fit it through the Chick Fil A drive through with the double curbed 90 degree turn, jungle landscaping and no other way out)! Hunger prevails. Anyway, trailer tires often sign up for tough duty and you don't always have enough heads up to avoid all hazards. If they will replace it and you prefer to spend money elsewhere, that is cool. If you want more margin of safety and durability for your tows, consider upgrading both to radials. Nice job catching it before it blew!

Yikes. Looks like you dodged a bullet. I would just go buy some tires.

Your tires are 8 years old? Thought I read somewhere that you should replace every 6 years. I had tires once that were 6 years old and both blew on the same outing.....I replace every 5 years now.

They are. I inspect them very closely at this point. They do not get UV exposure tucked in the garage and I use UV protectant religiously. With proper care you can get more but it requires regular attention.

Yes. Old ties are asking for trouble, even if they look good. There's is always a sucker on craigslist that will buy your old tires

6 years is the common claim with some advising up to 10 years. The variables are the amount of "anti-degradation additives" used in the rubber production process and many environmental factors (ozone, humidity, temps, and oxidation) combined with use stresses (how many pot holes, months or years sitting parked in the same spot, miles, etc.). After a sweet spot of about six years, the unknown variables make it extremely difficult to predict a failure and most manufacturers do not spend money on additional additives to keep them supple beyond 6 years.

I have been controlling as many variables as possible (limiting sun exposure to days of use, protectant application, a thermally stable storage environment, frequent inspections and storing unloaded-off the axles/stacked for winter) but I can't know or control the actual degradation no matter how hard I try. If you want some detail, this is a great quick read: https://www.ntsb.gov/news/events/Documents/2014_Tire_Safety_SYM_Panel_4b_Kane.pdf
I am proud of the condition of my things; but not too proud to go tire shopping. Blowouts can be unexpected, unforgiving and can easily cost lives. Too bad they can still happen with brand new tires. Thx.

I just got off the phone with Carlstar, 800-260-7959. They are sending me new radial tires including a new spare just so all the tires match and are radial. I realize the tires that came with the trailer stink, but this company took care of me with 5 star customer service! I don't know that the new radial tires are super awesome or anything, but they get my full support for high quality customer service.
