Is the length different also? I have the fxho and thought I saw something else. But the 1.8 is awesome and cruise is a must. I need to get mine out again. Need to source an AGM battery though.

The length is different with the fxho having an extra 8” and a little more storage. I looked on the website.

The VX was completely redesigned in 2015 I believe to this new hull. It is now the same hull that's on the GP1800. The VX is smaller than the FX, and you can get it in many variants with different options, engines, and colors. Most of the lineup has the TR-1 3 cyl engine. In my opinion, its way underpowered to be efficient. (Models VX, VX Limited, and VX deluxe), then there are the 2 variants with the 1.8ltr that just hums along, and will fly if you push it on this small ski. (VXR, and VX Cruiser HO) Then there is the big dog variant with the SVHO. The GP1800.

Now here is the kicker (Thanks Yamaha) You can only have trim on the VXR, and the GP1800 but no cruise, or you can have cruise on the VX Cruiser HO, but no trim. I never use trim anyway. Also the Cruiser has the stadium seating, where the rest of the lineup has the regular seats.

The FX has trim and Cruise. But you can only get the stadium seats on the FX Cruiser. The FX also comes in 1.8ltr or SVHO engines.

The VX Cruiser HO like mine was 11299, the FX with similar options was about 2k more.

I hope this helps.
Thank you, Mike, most informative - finally I can make some sense of Yamaha ski mambo-jambo names!

I dont have cruise on my FZS but i have been using the trim when playing around and and it makes it more agile. I use Jeffs cruise mod now and it works just fine for me

My wife doesn't like the FX Cruiser seat in comparison to my previous ski (Sea Doo GTR). The GTR had a strap that ran over the seat that she could hold onto. If she's on the back of the FX she has to grab the side and doesn't prefer that. While in the 2nd seat she just holds my jacket but she still prefers the strap on the Sea Doos.

Nice ski @ScarabMike. Whatever you do don't break in a new swimsuit on that white seat. I made that mistake on my GTRs seat and I could never get rid of the blue my board shorts left behind. Saw another one on my local lake a few years back where a young girls black bikini destroyed the seat. I'm sure you're probably well aware however. Must be nice to still be able to run the hours up this time of year. :banghead: winter

Thanks for the info @ScarabMike , it helps me narrow down my search. Need to upgrade from my son’s 1996 wave blaster ii which replaced my 2006 fx140 cruiser. Still stuck on whether to go used or new but if i go new/newer I would probably go with a vx like yours (2015 and up). I’ve seen the gp1800 on the show room floor once, after seeing the $18k to $19k sticker I didn’t brother to take a second look. I’ve seen a few used ex’s and Seadoo sparks online but the next ski maybe my next primary ski, family and guests can use the 06fxho cruiser which is plenty fast already (tops out at 59 on a gps and accelerates well with an after an aftermarket prop), so it’s got to be an upgrade. Th sparks are nice looking but I ’ve seen a lot of but YouTube is full of a lot of bad reviews from carbon seals failing to wear rings wearing out too fast. Kind of a bummer that the new Yamaha skis don’t have a brake/reverse system similar to the newer Seadoos (Ibrake I think it’s called) but I haven’t had the feature on any of my skis yet so at least I won’t miss it. Thanks again and congrats on the new ski.

They do Ronnie. It's called Ride and came out in 2015. I couldn't imagine having a ski without it. Awesome system.

My RXT had a nice soft seat. Seadoo is known for the comfort of their seats. This one isnt as soft but it is comfortable, and the materials are really nice.

They sell aftermarket straps that install in minutes. And thanks for the advice on the seat. I treated mine with 3m , and used a marine protectant. That may not help 100%, but it's worth a shot.

The GP1800 costs 13999 brand new, but thats without a trailer, taxes, and fees. But if you trade in the old one, you get a discount on taxes, and you could use the old trailer.

Yamaha has RiDE, its really nice and comparable to the Seadoo's IBR. On the newer Seadoos (2012 and up) its rare to have carbon seal issues unless you flush for long periods of time, or hit something and mis align the engine. I has about 140 hours on the 2016 RXT 300, and it was dry as the day it was purchased.

I still have a Seadoo. Its a GTI SE 130. That ski is one of the most playful and steady skis I have ridden. Perfect for the lil lady, and to go wave jumping.

Finished my last ride last weekend, and the ski has 12.5 hours. Trouble free for the most part. I am having an issue with the ski not reaching full potential at WOT. Im only getting 7200 RPM out of the engine, and it is supposed to top out at 7600. There are a few people having this issue, and seems that Yamaha either has placed the wrong pitch on the impeller, or they have issues in the ECU.

@ScarabMike , I have both of my stock impellers from my 242 Ls. If you want to borrow them for testing purposes let me know. When they were installed my engines topped out between 7,600 and 7,800 rpm. I’m not sure which is worse, Yamaha using the wrong impeller or improperly programmed / bad ecus. Either sucks because Yamaha should not have such problems being one of the older jet boat / pwc companies but since ecus cost so much more I would hope it was an impeller problem.

That would be cool. Are they 155mm? What did you go with in their place?

Not sure of the size but believe that the size didnt change in the first gen 240s (2010 through 2014). They came out of my 2010 242ls and were replaced by solas impellers at least one of which was repitched by impros in scal. Recall that the stock units have / had different pitches between port and starboard. Mine are in good shape with around 200 hours on them. Pm me with you mailing address if you want me to send them to you.

Well after a month, Ive put about 30 hours on her. She is very efficient, and the ride is good but not as good as my RXT. Ive started to get some mods done. And I'll post them here as I get a chance.

Here is a teaser of what is coming..53418374196__532FD24D-423F-47B0-808C-2E7CAA6F409A.JPG IMG_1768.JPG

Scarabmike anything on the seadoo?I found 2012 rxp reasonable priced .I can't find any vx Yamahas in same price range around here. Is the fuel that much different anything else between the 2 good or bad .I won't be riding a lot so fuel may not be that much of a concern depending on how much difference between the 2 .thanks for any info
