0 for 2 today, lost both Mahi right at the boat. 1st one threw the hook just before the leader reached the rod tip.

2nd one really chaps my ass. I missed with the gaff twice then I grabbed the wire leader and tried to fling the fish over the freeboard. The fish weighed more than I was anticipating and I hit the head on top of the freeboard and the hook popped out.

Hard to tell in the pic cause the Mahi was a few feet under water when the pic was taken...but it was 20-30lbs easily.

@ClemsonTiger how far are you having to ride out to get on the Mahi? It’s cool that you got them on the line in the first place! Best of luck to you next time:)

We can get them from as little as 1-2 miles offshore. I’m north of him by just a little bit and I need to run close to 8 miles or so out.

You Florida guys got it good here you have to get 40+ miles out most months. During July, August and September you can sometimes find some smaller ones between 20-30 miles out but the stream is usually 60 miles or so off our coast.

@2nazt is correct. Anywhere between 1-3 miles out between 100-300ft depth. The drop off goes from 70-80ft to 120ft instantly. I usually troll between the drop off to about 300ft normally. The day I was out (last Sunday) the gulf stream was 9 miles west of Jupiter inlet. Today it has moved to 21 miles west of Jupiter inlet...fluctuates week to week
