I have 2 wetsounds htx4, one for the 4 6.5s and the other (Bridged) for the 2 JLs. My factory interstate battery can barely keep it powereed for 3 hours so next mod is upgrading the aux battery. Yes they're free air IBs.

I had a lot of vibration in the throttles and dash in that location until I padded it. The opposite side of the boat by the co-captain may work better
What did you have to pad and what did you use? I eventually will probably do one on each side.

It should fit very well, it is only 6" deep or so?

I'm probably going to try JL M10ib5 myself, not sure yet, depends if I get the time to play.
I would want to stick it under the strbd side seat, and then test it as infinite baffle (with an empty compartment behind it) vs building a small carpeted enclosure, similar to what I did for my batteries.

I know you guys think this is silly (sticking a IB sub in a small sealed enclosure), but I have a feeling this could possibly kind of work... (for what I need it to do, lol).

--
Why not just use the M10W5? It is the same woofer but designed for an enclosure, and only .825^3 at that.

one other quick question. I'm looking at the JL amps and trying to find one that compares to the htx-6 that I have, 100 watts rms x 6 to run my 6 speakers but I dont see any that rate that High. I know they keep their power at low volts but I don't want my volume of those speakers to go down.
SOL with that one. Could always get two 600/6 and bridge each channel... then you get double the power

I guess my thinking is - that way I could try it both ways as either free air vs sealed enclosure (which I can built easily inside that compartment without too much loss of space). I must admit to certain amount of curiosity about it.
I also feel like know enough about it now (always a dangerous thing!) - to see how enclosing an IB sub (very unorthodox, I know) may give me what I would like to see (or hear, rather) - in a boat system, which is always fighting in open air and wind etc. Interestingly, there are enough first hand accounts of guys actually liking the enclosed IB JL subs - to make me wonder. And this is a touchy subject I find - as no expert really wants to go on record recommending such fallacy. LOL
So, will see. Right now I',m buried at work, so this is all just my day dreaming.

Well make sure you buy the white sport grille, that way if you don't like it either way, I can buy it off you. :D

So I ended up picking up a jl 10tw3 today that came in a 5.5in deep box. Im going to make my own box that is 3.5in deep so when you lift the seat you wont really notice anything there. This sub only requires .5^3 ft so I think it will be doable

Ok so back in the boat today and got my htx-6 working. On the back of the amp board my fuse in the distribution block came loose for that amp. I never thought about making sure those fuses were tight when I installed it. Dumb move on my part. So with the one tower speaker out, I shut that amp down and tuned the (6) 6.5's again at 90% head unit volume and a couple clicks under 3/4 on the amps gain. While sitting at the helm I was trying to plan out the rest of the system. Definitely ordering the rev 8's to replace the icon 8's. Also going to throw this out there again, thinking about putting some revo 8's in this location to fill in the front.
20180222_152350.jpg
Now I've been going back and forth over IB's or an enclosure and which location to install them. If I go the IB route, i may install it behind the passenger seat facing forward.
20180222_152740.jpg
It looks like it is flat enough on this side. Now i need to figure out which amp to get. The rev 8's handle 200rms the revo 8's 150 and the jl m10ib5 250. Thoughts?

With radio at 90% and amp gain at 3/4... these is no way you aren't clipping.

I'll be curious what you find!
To me, the two ICON8s that I have (powered by HT2) are LOUD, and while I like them they sound a touch shrill, almost harsh - but I can EQ with the WS420. I would imagine the REVs being HLCDs would certainly not be more mellow. Unless you want long distance projection, which I do not need as I don't even blast them for surfing , there is usually just too much going on.

No clipping here, the amp was a couple clicks under 3/4 which really is halfway between 1/2 and 3/4 (5/8)

Was thinking about the rev 8's for when we're on the beach. Now you got me thinking., the icons kind of blend in with the cabin speakers while in the boat and we can still hear them on the beach just not as clear. Decisions decisions.

As long as it sounds good but if anything blows that would be my first area to check.

just checking max volume and max gain with no clipping. The most I will run the hu volume at is 75%. Never blown an amp in 20 years of doing installs.

Im definitely following this @CraigAR

On the subject of getting more sound in the bow, Ive also thought about adding a pair of speakers in the lower location, but another option would be to put a single speaker in this location. I know it might sound odd, but one of my buddies who I helped convince to get a 212SS and he runs Polk MM speakers and has one there (and another between the transom wall through) and it sounds DAMN GOOD....it easily helps to offset the wind noise everyone mentions since it is facing reward and is below the wind line it projects plenty of sound up front....my only thing is being able to find a single speaker that can handle 200w. Now if I could find a M770 or M880 then I would probably go that route....unless I find another location I can put the second pair...perhaps MX770's would be a solid option

I dont want to put good speakers down where the feet are going to be if at all possible, between getting kicked and the sound just being so low to the floor I dont know if that would be best for my ears. I wasnt impressed with the additional speakers in the cabin when I added them, hence moving up to M880 towers.

Anyone on the forum whose interested in this idea and is open to running JL audio lets connect, perhaps we can split the costs of a pair, just saying.

On the subject of tower speakers it is comments about the WS Revs being a tad harh (characteristics of the titanium tweeters) that made me opt to keep everything JL and go with the M880s, pushing them with a 600/6....the 1.2" tweeters and larger woofer should give me the sound I'm looking for, which is more warm and consistent with the other JL speakers I have....I dont need the loudest towers since there some people out there with insane setups, but rather wanted to be loud, and clear without being harsh. and those last 2 channels are open on that amp for the very reason of adding some speaker in the bow in the future.

Im hoping to get the new equipment installed in the next few weeks, and will be sure to post some pics and a clip.

Interested to see what you decide to do

I think wet sounds sound better down low since they are so "bright" it gives them a deeper sound. That's my problem up front and I think the revo 8's should take care of it. I will run bolts and locking nuts on these. I thought about placing one where you show but feel like it has a better chance of getting damaged there. My son likes to run up there and jump off the bow. Wet sounds grills don't have a lot if protection.

Can you still fit a cooler starboard side if there is an IB sub there? Has anyone ran 2 10" IB subs side by side in that compartment? I'm really wanting to buy from crutchfield since I have 15,000 reward points (about $200-$300) but my problem is they only sell the amplified box wet sound subs. Debating about going JL but I don't want the sub grill to look stupid with the rest of my wet sounds speakers. Could possibly find a grill on eBay maybe.
Damn, why did you have to say that...lol, I like you will be installing 6- Wetsound XS650 speakers in the cabin and 2 in the swim deck and was looking at installing 2 - 10” JL subs. Now You have me thinking about how it will look....
