Did you ever find the answer to this ? Or what the reverse cable part is?
Other than some very early models I believe that all twin engined Yamahas use cables of the same length for both sides. The routing through the center of the boat makes the cable length the same.

Hate to bring this back but my 2015 needs new cables and looks different than what my older sx230 had. Does anyone know the part number from Seastar for a 2015 242 LS? It looks similar to their rack steering package. The cable part number is SSC14417.

Here are some links to a decent prices on the Yamaha part # for your reverse gate cable:

Hey There @Bruce @bronze_10 I just ordered steering/control cables for my 2009 212x.

I ordered the steering thru Ebay for a Seastar SSC21916 (16ft) cable for $$127.98 ($255.96) . Best I can tell 16ft is the factory length and echo'd by @smthng here.

I ordered the control/bucket cable thru boatstoreusa.com Teleflex part number CCX63317 (17ft). $36.38 ($72.76+$10 ship)
The factory length on this cable is not clear to me, I chose 17 based on the 230's being 18, and conversation with @bronze_10 .

Hope to install them next weekend. Will edit if required
THANK YOU

Say Hey All, @Bruce the above part numbers are solid for the 212x (21 footers). shout-out to @bronze_10 for giving me a solid days labor in the heat to replace these 4 cables, and the knowledge to help someone else. My boat is a 2009 and has about 200 hours on it. Its garage a great deal and soaks on the weekends. overall the old cables looked fine, I haven't hacksaw'd thru them yet but I don't expect anything to come of it. The new ones do feel better and I'm expecting/hoping that the throttle creep will be gone as a result of tighter bucket cables....
enjoy the ride..

SeaStar / Teleflex manufactures the steering and shift cables for Yamaha boats.

Their OEM parts are available at lower prices than the Yamaha parts.

For the 2007 to 2009 230 range the part numbers are SSC21917 for steering and CCX63318 for the shifter.

If you know part numbers for other models please contribute them to this thread.

Looking through their parts catalog they have components listed for the mechanical steering system used before 2015 and the rack steering system used on later boats. @Julian do you think there would be any value in upgrading older boats to the rack system?

I have emailed and left a message for SeaStar hoping to learn if any newer (better) parts exist for my boat. Currently I believe that the SSC219XX series is the latest unless I upgraded to the rack system.

Here are the relevant sections from their catalog. Click them to enlarge.

2. The SSc21917 /F1C-U1470-10-00 steering cable has never been upgraded. So you will receive the same product wherever you buy it.

@Bruce ,

I notice the AR190's in your chart/XLS only have a part # for the reverse cable. However, you posted a picture above of the Jetboat steering cable SSC219XX (XX is the length). Do you know if this cable will replace the OE cable (mine is a F3A-U1470-01-00) (2015 AR192) ?

Doug,

SBT lists your cable length as 170.125 inches.

That is 14 feet 2.125 inches.

I would hate for your cable to be 2.125" too short so SSC21915 would likely be the best choice. There is no issue with it being too long. I see prices starting around $114 for that part.

PartsPak has the Yamaha Cable for $131.

If you order the Seastar cable please confirm it works. I am almost certain that it will.

@Bruce,

Thanks, but SBT had their "in-house" cable direct replacement for the Yamaha OE. So, I am driving the 4.5 hours (round-trip) and picking up their bale for $169 (minus 10% military discount). I will then, take pictures and measurements of the ends and send those pictures to a parts specialists @ MarinePartsSource and have them compare the ends in my pictures with the SSC21915 they have in stock. I will post the results back here for the group.

Thanks sir.

Salt water boaters lube your cables disconnect slip a hose on with a clamp add some light weight oil shift it turn the steering wheel a bunch of times leave it sit for the winter with the hoses on and some oil . I went 13 years on my previous 2005 AR230.

Just placed an order for two 17' cables. The cheapest place I found was Marine Parts Source. $120.17 with free shipping.

Jet Boat Steering Cable - 17 Ft.
I didn't listen to @Bruce in this thread and replaced my steering cables without replacing the control cables last year. Guess what I am doing this year? Yup, replacing the control cables. Only one is bad but I'm replacing both.

30% off Overton's coupon right now plus free shipping and I'm in for a bit over $50 for both:

I am pretty sure that the 2015+ cables are listed in the SeaStar parts catalog. Not as Yamaha parts but as newer offerings from Seastar. A call to tech support might help identify them.

...so, I have to replace the steering cable on my 2015 SX192; yamaha PN F3A-U1470-01-00 from here:

My question is: There seems to be a grommet through where the cable is inserted but I see Nuts on the cable that make me think it's tightened/sealed in the grommet..?!?

Does the cable just slide through the grommet?

Thanks guys!

Which number on the diagram appears to be the grommet?

@Irvs when I received my cables only a washer and a nut had to be removed (from the stern end) to easily pass the old cable out from the helm through to the stern. I had to to remove the floor to expose some cable ties that had to be cut, so that the old cable could be easily extricated. I used these coupling nuts (suggested by another JB member) to tie the old and new cables together, which made the cable pass-through step very easy:
