Hey Guys, I’m going to be picking up my new 2018 212 limited S in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone would know what size drop hitch I would need? I know I need a 2” ball just not sure of height on the drop hitch. My truck is a 2015 GMC Sierra Z71 4x4 1500 stock height..

I have a 2017 Silverado / SX190 and have a 2" drop that works out fine.

You know you could probably just call the dealer and ask them to level the trailer on a similar unit and measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the tongue. You can figure out the rest from there. Every truck model is different and I bet a Z71 4x4 has a taller suspension that a standard stock Silverado. Getting the trailer level while towing is important for safety, tire wear and braking. I finally invested in an 8" maximum drop adjustable hitch to accommodate various trailers and vehicles. One good hitch does the job of 2 or 3. There are a lot of adjustable Class III (6,000 lb) hitches under $100. PS: make sure the ball can also handle 6,000 lbs.

Check out the Gen-Y Hitch Torsion Hitch.

I love mine and it makes a really big difference on the way that truck handles when you are pulling over bad roads!

GenYHitch makes the best hitch systems on the market! I have their drop hitch on my sema truck and their torsion hitch for everyday pulling with my daily.

Rather than turning this into a "big johnson" contest on how much you can spend on the crap hanging from your bumper, here is some advice from someone who has owned what you have and you can take it from there.

I have used a 2" drop on my 2012 Sierra (non Z71), 2015 Sierra (Z71) and my current 2018 Sierra Denali and my 242 Limited S tows nearly perfectly level. A 4" would serve the purpose if you have already bought it. But a 2" seems to be level with these boats. I may go lower for my Aluma utility trailer, so an adjustable is nice, but many times as expensive. For sure not as expensive as the crazy powder coated contraption above. Keep in mind that some of these crazy adjustables can extend the length from trailer to bumper, so you may need an extension on your light hookups.

My only option, that seemed frivolous at first, but a good call was to go stainless on the tongue and ball. It really keeps the rust to a minimum and cuts back on bad ground issues. Let alone its much cleaner to handle. But the cost goes up quite a bit. Painted steel are cheap, so you can have multiples of them, but they will peel and rust over time. Get some good locks too for the hitch pin and tongue pin. Matching keys are a nice option.

Good luck!

I have a 2017 212x and a 4wd F150. I actually use a zero drop hitch to get my trailer level. The trailer sits pretty high and this is just what ended up working for me.

What is "working" for you is a good way to put it.

Level is ideal towing. High is ideal draining, and low is ideal for loading in shallow water.

Hell, my buddy will put an ultra low tongue in just to load his tritoon and then change it out in the parking lot before he hits the highway. He needs all the bunk in the water he can get at almost 24' of toon. He could have benefited from an adjustable for sure.

I think I have a 2” drop on my 17 F150 and I’m going to change it out for a zero drop. The fromtnjust sits a tad to low.
Might help pulling this 242 LSE as it seems very tongue heavy
