To replace what I donated last year to the sea gods in bimini (and a lesson in Amazon shopping.... Chain is lighter than I wanted)
Most hardware stores will sell chain by the foot.

I have been using the same two 5/16” 5’ chain sections since 2013.

Great Isaac Cay

Great Isaac Cay Lighthouse in 2004

Lighthouse[edit]
The most prominent feature of the island is its lighthouse, which was erected in 1859, and stands about 151 feet (46 m) tall. It has been claimed that a full moon causes unusual sounds to be heard on the small island. In the late 19th century local lore tells of a ship wreck on the island with one survivor, an infant. The child’s distraught mother, known as the Grey Lady, is said to haunt the island to this very day, wailing in sorrow during the full moon.

On August 4, 1969, the station was discovered to have been abandoned by its two keepers, who were never found.[3]Many believers in the Bermuda Triangle claim that the keepers were two more victims lost to its mysterious forces.[4]however, the hurricane record from 1969 indicates that Hurricane Anna [1], the first hurricane of 1969, on 1–2 August, passed close enough to Great Isaac Island to cause dangerous weather for the tiny rock island. By the 4th of August, the hurricane was well into the Atlantic Ocean.

The grounds are open to the public, although the lighthouse itself has had stairs removed to block access to the interior of that structure. The keepers’ house, cistern, and assorted buildings are crumbling into ruins. The derelict collection of abandoned buildings make Great Isaac Cay a popular destination for boaters.

I normally use an anchor buddy but I read on here somewhere that the anchor buddies don't do well in surf.. So I bought mine as soon after my wife said yes to bimini last year! Lol

@bronze_10, I find that an anchor buddy works well in Bimini.

I use 100’ of anchor rode. The anchor buddy is attached to the anchor in parallel to the rode. The other end of the anchor buddy is attached to the anchor rode at the 50’ point. The two are connected together every 10’ with a velcro tie.

The 100’ of anchor rode is clipped into the anchor locker at the 50’ and 100’ points. Most of the time I only let out 50’. If the water is deeper I remove the first clip to use the full length.

I keep two more 100’ sections of rope in mesh bags under the stern seats. They can be used with a stern anchor, to tie to shore, to extend the anchor rode or have even been used to pull a tube.

Dang it @Bruce!! . Just when I thought I was getting a handle on this anchoring thing! Now I am going to have to reread your post multiple times over the next few days to try and grasp your advanced boat anchoring scheme! However the anchor buddy may be good for the rear anchor! I can grasp that pretty easy!

@bronze_10, the elasticity of the anchor buddy reduces the force applied to the anchor. That increases the holding strength against occasional loads such as waves but would not help against a constant wind. It certainly is a bow anchor item.

I have asked this before with little response what are you guys using for stern anchors? I want a stern anchor not a shore spike as I know a stern anchor will help in some snorkeling spots in Bimini. The wife bought me one for Christmas but it was way to big I wound up giving it to @veedubtek to use as his main anchor on his pontoon.

I have a type one life jacket question... I bought two adults.. I need one for my youngest who is 90 pounds but she is short. The adult is way too big on her.. So I ordered a youth that is for 50 to 9p pounds. Found one at Walmart and ordered it. When it came it was a child's size for 30 to 50 pounds... Now every time I search for a youth they are child's size... I simply can not find a youth aize for her.. Any suggestions?

@Julian, what did you have to do to get approval for flying in the Bahamas? I already have my FAA registration for the US and a prior post by @robert843 mentioned emailing a guy in the Bahamas (Edwards?) for approval but I never received a response back from the him.
I emailed him asking for approval, including all the info that Robert suggested and he sent me a permission letter.

I use a river anchor as stern anchor on lakes. It is the weight that holds it in place. It never works very well on beaches in Bimini unless you dig a hole and bury it. I have an old danforth anchor that I will likely take as well this year for that purpose.

I'm not really looking for something on the beaches as much as where I can control the rear of my boat at places like the sapona, Three Sisters, plane wrecks and possibly Isaacs Cay all these would be offshore.

A rubber coated river anchor is a very nice way to do that.
