You're saying you have 4 new Waverunners, and each pair are having the same issues?

The overheat is more than likely due to lack of cooling water flow through the engine due to the cavitation. So solving the cavitation should fix both problems.

Did this happen from the first time you used the ski? Or develop slowly or suddenly after sucking anything up?

It's quite possible that there's some silicone missing on the intake grate, ride plate and Or the pump housing allowing air to get sucked into the pump and cause the cavitation. If both skis are doing the same thing and there wasn't a notable event that caused it, I'd bet that it's an assembly issue with sealant or something like that.

Anyway, good luck with the fix. Hopefully it'll be quick and easy.

yes they are actually a friends who purchased them and has less than 10 hrs on them and all four have issues. . The dealer found a little bit of seaweed but even said it wasn't enough to do anything. Yamaha tech is looking into it also but just strange all were acting up. Thanks for the responses and I will post if he finds out what the issues were.

If they are under warranty you have the right to get them fixed. Not seeing what the issue is. Are they denying it's under warranty, can't replicate the problem, what?

I agree with @itsdgm this is likely all related to one issue and that likely being what ever is causing the cavitation. I would inspect around the impeller really good and make sure there is no damage for all the skis to have the issue would make me think they were all playing in a shallow area and sucked up some fine rocks that could be causing the cooling lines to be blocked and possibly there being some impeller damage causing the cavitation.

Hello there I am having the same exact problems that you had. And in addition 2 yamaha dealerships could not figure the problem out. I am convinced there is sand blocking the cooling of the water somewhere. Runs fine for 15 minutes cold. I've even had the alarm going off when running it on water flushing it. Interestingly while flushing the alarm shuts off. As soon as it's in the water after 15 shuts off.

Thanks

Morning, glad I found this post. Have u got any solution to this problem yet?
I just bought 2pcs brand new ex 2017 have 10 hours on then and facing the same problem as u. Check engine and/or over heat. Cooling water is not hot so very irritating.
Will be picked up today by the dealer.

My thinking is it might be sensor or thermostat problem.

Strange thing is we can run for hours in our bay, but if we go for a tour let’s say to sandbar we get these errors.
No seaweed or debris in the intake.

Let me know if / how you got this solved.

Johan

Another thing to consider when operating in the shallows. It has been determined, by video, these engines suck from 3 feet down. If your operating in the shallows or from a sandbar and do a hole shot you're going to suck up sand, shells & seaweed from the bottom. This may not be causing the current issue but is something to consider.

On that note I have a trick for getting started in shallow water with a ski, even have one for doing that with a passenger . I stopped and helped a couple who were walking their ski across the flats because they stopped and could not get going again without sucking up the bottom. I demonstrated the maneuver and dam if they didn't get the ski up and on plane with no effort. As far as his issue I discovered that the water in my ski was cold but the alarm would go off and this convinces me he has the same issue BAD SENSOR.

One thing I forgot to mention,, check your oil level low oil uses the same buzzer as the overheat warning and I just experienced that the other day when an oil filter failed and shot out all my oil.

I've noticed that there are 2 thermosensors and one thermo switch. which one would be considered the heat sensor? I'm also having this issue with the overheating warning indicator and then the ski goes into limp mode 2018 yamaha waverunner ex

My wife bought a Yamaha waverunner 2017 ex deluxe she had 15 hours on it when her and our 9yo daughter were coming back from their little island on a fresh water lake in NC called lake normal when the check engine light came on. The waverunner died in the water she tried starting it a few times but kept stalling out until oil started dumping into the lake. After her not knowing what to do and called me I came over with our boat. Upon arrival the wife and my daughter had pushed the waverunner onto the beach area and said she had called BoatsUS and was going to have it towed to a local marina. After waiting a few days we received a called stating they weren’t a licensed Yamaha dealer and that we needed to have it taken to where we bought it. After being lied to about how much it was going to cost us,119 dollars came to almost 900 dollars but they told us we have the extended warranty and that the engine blew a ROD. I thought how the hell was that possible. After about a month of back and forth between the dealership and whoever they talk to at Yamaha they informed us that my wife and daughter must have gotten water into the sealed engine compartment and or flipped it over, and that they will not replace it also that our extended warranty will not cover it since it’s through Yamaha. Well my wife weighs 115 pounds and my daughter 52 and let’s just say they couldn’t flip anything over and if they somehow did since she never went over 20 mph on it they surely couldn’t flip it back over. So just so all of you know they new 3 cylinder engine isn’t worth a shit and also Yamaha doesn’t stand behind their products at all. They have there so called certified Yamaha mechanics who sent us pictures and our insurance company also said that there was no proof of water anywhere. The catch is that you can sue them and they will just keep postponing until you run out of money to fight them. I called several other Yamaha dealers around and they said they have had several problems with this engine. Hope this helps
