We added a Margaritaville Explorer to our list of boat accessories. It has not yet been used to make an actual margarita. We prefer ours on the rocks. But it has been used to make lots of Pina Coladas and Blue Hawaiians as well as "virgin" drinks for the kids. It works great at home or on the boat. The battery is good for around 10 pitchers of drinks. It worked great for our all day outing with six adults and two kids yesterday.

We will be bringing it along to #Bimini2015!

Damn, I was just joking to my wife about having a blender on the new boat to help us make some boat drinks.

You guys are helping spend all of my money before I've even done a thing on the boat!

@JetPowered, When I ordered they had a 10% off coupon if you signed up for their email list.

It was a fun addition to yesterday's outing. I think it will be even more fun for adult only days and evenings on the water.

That is nice. Have you seen their drink maker? Would be a great option for a lake or beach house.

This reminds me of those short animated public announcements that use to be televised on Saturday morning between cartoons when I was a kid. Remember school house rock? Or this on:

"Out we go to spend our dough without our common sense, we're the dough nuts."

I want to put one of these on my Christmas list....will I be happy with the cordless one at home (which is where is will get most of its use), or should I go with an AC one?
The cordless version will make 10 or so pitchers on a charge. So I feel it is sufficient for home usage unless you forget to recharge the battery.

Does it run when plugged into the charger?
Unfortunately not. The battery is a $99, 18 volt NiCad with a separate charger. I wish it was a Lithium Ion battery that would hold a charge. The NiCad battery needs to be charged recently before usage.

We picked this one up last winter. Great for home and makes some pretty solid drinks but not to practical for the boat. I will say though, the one time we brought it with us, the swim deck was the place to be!

It would be a lot sweeter if it was! I borrowed an inverter from a buddy for that trip. I was going to permanently mount one (inverter) just so I could use the blender but the thing was so big and bulky I decided to make it a back porch or dock accessory instead.

Looking that up....looks like it draws 750watts....so this inverter would handle it easily....and doesn't look too bulky....and only $38

That inverter is massively overrated. I have a 1000 watt inverter and it is probably four times that size. 1200 watts would mean pulling 100 amps from your battery. I see a 12v power adapter plug in the picture as well as the battery clamp. 12v outlets are rated for less than 30 amps, most are less than 20.

If I was going to install an inverter it would be a sealed and marine rated model. I thought about it and decided that I did not want 120v AC on my boat. The potential for electrocution is much higher. The higher the voltage the greater they ability to jump. Stun guns use thousands of volts to jump (arc) through the air. 120 will not jump very far through the air but will travel a significant distance through water. This can be countered through using GFCI outlets but what happens if the water reaches the wiring at the back of the outlet or gets inside the inverter. My decision was that it was a risk and hassle that I do not need.
