Need Advice on Price of Used SX230

The cheaper 2010s out there are pushing the 2009s into the low 20s. Not sure were you are located but we probably will sell our 09 in the spring. We moved to salt water last year and probably need something different.

    Boat value vs hours used

200 hours is considered low for a 5 year old boat in FL. In NY they see it is completely worn out :).

    It's over...

I admire how loyal all of you are to boating. I don't think I could justify owning a boat if I could not use it year round.

Matthew put a 6" hole in my Yamaha mooring cover - any tips to repair?

I consider myself lucky to only have this damage. We are less than a mile from the ocean. I had a 4" thick 10' long branch call across the bow. It fell across the bow rails and bent them down 1mm or so. They should bend up easily. The hole in the cover is in the bow by the port bow rail...

How to maintain 4 batteries over the winter

Just switch the tender to a different battery each week. I leave my batteries disconnected and I am surprised how little they drain after sitting a couple of months.

This is a stamp of approval on why the 21' was the right one for us over the 24'

You have yourself a garage queen there. Those are my favorite boats to buy used. They are always in much better shape than the ones that are left outside. I hate leaving my 23 outside. Once the kids are gone, I will go back to an 18' just to have it in my garage.

05 AR230 Fuel Gauge Sender Swap

I received that part last month and yes it had a float just like the OEM one in my 09. That part number is the OEM for most of the boats now. I assume they have switched away from the float-less sensors. Probably because they are cheaper and Yamaha seems to go the cheapest route. My float...

Inside wear on trailer tires - bad leaf spring?

Are you using radials? If not, that is probably your issue. Radials are not much $$ more these days. The only downside is the sidewall is more easily damaged if you pinch a curb. Plenty of upside though.

    Shift cable/nozzle cover acting weird

Thanks for posting this. I was looking around last night for an option that did not have shipping. Your link was for the 18' cable. I believe the OP with his 2004 boat will need the 17' cable. https://www.walmart.com/ip/SEASTAR-SOLUTIONS-MECH-TF-Xtreme-Universal-Control-Cable/33715451.

Found this on the "other" site about MFI trailer brakes

My original calipers were not real DB35s. They were knock offs that MFI got from China. The calipers had not actually failed. I needed pads, dust covers and new pistons. The complete new parts were not much more $$$. Good luck convincing an inspector. 230s look a lot heavier than they are...

Found this on the "other" site about MFI trailer brakes

I reused my lines. The nuts were a bit rusty but I was able to make them work with a flare nut wrench. My trailer has a single flexible line down to the axle. Everything on the axle is solid lines.

Found this on the "other" site about MFI trailer brakes

I called MFI and they told me all their Yamaha trailers from that era use either DB35s or knock offs of the DB35s. My brakes were also hard lined. I purchased the aluminum calipers from here http://www.pacifictrailers.com/trailer-buddy-parts-complete-kits/ They come with pads already...

    Fuel Hatch Removal

I did the fuel hatch last week and it probably took 10+ hours to get it apart and back together again. Drilling the old bolts out is not fun. I was able to find decent replacement bolts on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FAVC660/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Looking at 230 boat

I see it now. It says trailer included above in the specifics. Then trailer not included in the description.

    Looking at 230 boat

The auction says the trailer is included :)

    Looking at 230 boat

My guess is that auction will end in the $12-13k range

    incorrect fuel reading

Where is the sending unit on the 2005? For my 2009 the sending unit is in the back 1/3 of the tank. If it were much farther forward, what you say above may happen.

    incorrect fuel reading

Can you pull the sending unit and make sure the float is not sinking? If it is, perhaps the dealer can just send you a new one. My 09 has the SSL 12 and the float is not floating.

A few things about my latest/current boating excursion.

Tired of towing in the SF area :). I lived there for a year and hated it also. Hills, high speed, thick aggressive traffic that does not care that you are towing.

    Progressive insurance

Because Florida. Most major companies have pulled out of FL for boat coverage (State Farm and Allstate to name a few). I use Progressive and they are fine.
