    Yamaha 255x won't cruise over 10mph

What RPM are you hitting? Any chance you have a cleanout port(s) not quite sealed? Will it go faster on just the throttles (i.e. not using the cruise/speed control)?

Thoughts and demo rides of wake / towsports boats: Moomba Max, Axis A22, MB Sports

Maybe less than completely relevant to the boats currently being sold, but I've owned a 2016 MB F22 since new and absolutely love it. It's early in this thread, actually. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newest boats but it is a solid boat that throws down a fantastic surf wave...

Is this video an intentional hit piece against wake boats?

I know that I got in to what I consider a pretty nice custom ordered wake boat for a long ways under $100K, though that was 5 years ago now. Even today, it isn't necessary to spend even $100K to get a very well built and capable wake boat. Just my 2 cents. That said, I certainly won't fault a...

    Silly rant.

We switched out the carpet in our MB for GatorStep this season. The main thing my wife immediately noticed was that the boat no longer smelled like wet hot carpet. Also, it doesn't trap little sand particles and bits of hair (two long-haired daughters and a long-haired wife) like can get into...

I want bigger displacement engines ! C'mon Yamaha the 1.8s are dinosaurs at this point !

Why not use a larger displacement engine that produces peak torque at significantly lower rpm, allowing the use of greater pitch on the impellers in perhaps larger volume pumps? Seems like that would essentially eliminate the noise issues (or at least change it to a less annoying tone) that...

    Lake scum on hull

Star Brite hull cleaner. It is the correct tool for the job.

    Hull yellowing

Star Brite hull cleaner will do the trick. I really really really recommend NOT using Magic Erasers to "clean" any part of your boat interior or exterior. Eventually they will simply dull the finish on the outside and remove material from the interior vinyl.

Torn... next Yamaha vs an actual Surf boat

Quite a few very nice surf boats can be bought new for less than $100K. Sanger, MB, Supreme, Axis all come to mind. Yes - most of those builders also make boats that are above $100K list price but many can be had for under (or well under) that figure.

    Leaving the jets behind

Congrats on the VTX! Very nice boat and will be so awesome for watersports and just all around boating.

Yamaha Boats featured on Today show story about Carbon Monoxide

Sad any way you slice it. Regarding leaving the boat idling while "hanging out", I don't even see how that is really practical on a Yamaha. With ours, when the engines were on the boat moved no matter whether it was in "neutral" or not. And yes, sitting on the platform while the engines are...

Yep. These boats aren't the "one trick ponies" some folks seem to think they are.

How Yamaha drove me to a Scarab...

Cobalts are niiiiiiiiiiiice. If getting a stern drive, that's what I would buy. I came very close to getting a 220 of a CS when we were moving on from our Yamaha but ultimately decided I wanted a V Drive for watersports purposes and a bit less complexity. The CS23 is a phenomenally gorgeous...

    Best way to clean hull

As was said, wrap the trailer or at the very least keep it continuously wet while you are using the cleaner. That said, toilet bowl cleaner or hull cleaner will both make this job waaaaaay easier than trying to use a pressure washer or elbow grease. Actually, I'm not sure either of those...

Torn... next Yamaha vs an actual Surf boat

You make a good point. Surfing is just one activty. While I really do love surfing with my friends and pulling our younger folks on wakeboards, iIn my case I find our MB to be more enjoyable for every single boating use than I did our Yamaha. Not that the Yamaha was bad, and the MB was...

Torn... next Yamaha vs an actual Surf boat

Take "reliability" issue rumors with a grain of salt. They are essentially all anecdotal (not saying untrue) and such things seem to almost always be overrepresented on forums. Mastercraft does a great job with build quality and most of the subsystems are made by other companies (the same ones...

Torn... next Yamaha vs an actual Surf boat

There's a technique you need to learn for backing and maneuvering in tight spaces. Just involves switching between reverse, neutral and forward and back again to get the boat going the direction you want. Not as complicated as it sounds but takes a couple of tries to learn fully. Once you...

Torn... next Yamaha vs an actual Surf boat

As has been said, go v-drive wakeboat and I doubt you'll ever look back. Don't believe at all that only Malibu or Centurion make great surf waves. I've not surfed a Centurion but I've been behind several Malibus and Axis (very similar wave) boats and frankly I find their wave to be on the...

    Advice on slip usage

We kept our SX210 in a slip for 3 summers. No real issue other than the boat obviously gets pretty dirty on the outside. Keep a cover on it to keep the sun from wrecking the interior. If you have nothing capable of towing, you'll need to figure a way to haul the boat out of the water once or...

How to get a good wake for surfing

I would really recommend using water ballast instead of steel simply because you can have the weight when you want it (i.e. for surfing) and dump it the rest of the time. Having 1000 lbs of steel in the back would for sure increase your wake for surfing but it will hinder your performance and...
