Low RPM in water--RPM good when flushing!?

How does it run in the water now?

Low RPM in water--RPM good when flushing!?

Based upon what you've found, my next step would be a compression test. You can probably pick up a cheap compression testing set at Harbor Freight if you need one.

Low RPM in water--RPM good when flushing!?

You need to figure out that oil light before you run it more. If oil is full and the right color and consistency then work your way back from the engine squeezing the connectors together. These plugs are amazing if you have a tank full of bad gas but that won't help today...

    Boat Stolen - 2011 Yamaha 242 Limited S - MUST READ

Most manufacturers create what is referred to as a birth certificate for each item that they build. Any serial numbers for components put on your boat when it was built should be listed on that birth certificate. I know of car manufacturers that can even tell you what each bolt on a vehicle was...

Making DVSR Active with Engines On Only

You could do that. On the cluster I have I would have had to change the bars that connect the terminals out for wires to make that work. There are tons of different ways to solve this problem, the easiest if you trust yourself to move a switch every time is just to put a switch on the black wire...

    Cleanout tube slot discovery

Take the screws out of the top of the plug and you can remove the top (expensive half) of the plug. Put it right into a bag and don't play with it otherwise you will probably lose the little spring in it. Once you have the top of the way you can use a pair of channel locks to reach down in there...

    Compartment Drain Plugs?

I'd be looking to figure out how that water got in the ski locker. One of the big rules in boating is keeping the water outside the boat. If it was from rain it should have all hit the deck and run out the scupper in back. The cup holder on the helm drains to the ski locker and maybe the...

    Where's the speed?

I wouldn't change the plugs on a 2010+ as a method of troubleshooting. If you are getting 8k on one and 6k on the other that tells me that you have crap in your pumps and that 8k motor is spinning in bubbles. That 6k motor is moving enough water to bring the RPMs down but tons of bubbles there...

    Another oil cooler bolt sheared

My dealer dug a broken bolt out of mine and replaced it as well as replacing the other a few years ago. I wanted the entire coolers replaced but they only did the bolts. It has been fine since so I would say start with the bolts and go from there.

    Dual battery with voltage relay

That is exactly how it works. The voltage is higher though...13.3 if I remember correctly. Most folks only run that way when charging from the motor because that relay can allow a lot of current to flow between the batteries very quickly if the house battery is low. If you want to save wear and...

Making DVSR Active with Engines On Only

If you are wired in so the dvsr only engages when the ignition is on then you turn the switches on before you put the boat in the water and off when you take it out.

    Winterization of the shower

I never add it to the tank. I run the tank dry and fill the hose with antifreeze. The only connectors I ever lost to freezing were after the pump.

To the folks thinking of buying a Yamaha: I will never buy one again.

Maybe to put it another way, when you are trying to cram value into a price point something has to suffer. In this case it seems to be customer service. Seems like the best Yamaha to get is the one from the last year before a big change because they eventually fix the problems before they roll...

Pay no attention. Nothing to see here. LOL!

Just like the oil coolers and the timing chains. Meanwhile, GM still fixes design issues on my '05 Chevy...probably more to get me in the showroom, but fix their mistakes they do.

They will not discuss it. At all. The fix they added in later years was to add 1/8" drain holes by the welds.

The POS hijack is getting old. Wish an op could delete replies. Why does every car/boat/bike/gun(except p&s) discussion on the internet have to turn into a show off post? LMAO

To the folks thinking of buying a Yamaha: I will never buy one again.

I finally understand where the POS talk came from after reading back (not something I said). As much as I hate Yamaha right now I wouldn't call their boats POSs. My frustration is they have recognized and fixed their mistakes in newer products. They are evolving the boats and making them...

To the folks thinking of buying a Yamaha: I will never buy one again.

My issue was with the poor attitude of the customer service rep and Yamaha not standing behind their products. I have personally experienced 2 issues that I would have expected a recall to be issued for. When I called in looking for ideas on just where to take it to get fixed or even to buy a...
