My 2001 LS 2000 engine compartment flooded due rain and faulty bilge pump. One engine starts and the other will crank over once and then fails. The water in the compartment was up to the plugs. Any ideas on what I should do? Help.

Pull the spark plugs and turn the motor over
This may be a ridiculous question but any idea on the socket size to pull these?

I have pulled the spark plugs and spent some time turning the motor over. Water initially shot out of the top like a fountain. Got it down to a fine mist. What should I do next and what precautions should I consider going forward?

Start engine as soon as possible. Put fresh plugs back in, replace all oil, pray it starts, and if it does, run it like you stole it for an hour so the temps rise and water evaporates.

There are a few threads and articles with more detail, but in essence you want it to run, and soon, to displace all the water that may be leftover.

So you are saying I should put oil directly into the valves? How much should be added? The motor is oil injected so I’m not sure about the amount I should put in there.

This is a 2stroke so no engine oil to change. If you think you pumped all the water out of the cylinders then the next step is to get new plugs. Might need a set or two just in case.
Check the air filter to make sure it isnt still soaked with water, either remove or change it. I would also add a spoon full of 2stroke oil to each cylinder and turn the engine over a few times without plugs to lube the cylinders.

Put the new plugs in, make sure your battery is charged and it should start after a few tries. The oil you poured down the spark plug holes will burn away after a few mins. Hopefully there was no other damage when you tried to start it originally.

I have not been able to find the location of the air filter. Any idea where this may be located on the boat? LS2000. I have searched and have been unable to locate it. Also not sure what plugs to put in the boat to replace. Is it possible to use the old plugs and oil them up good?

Spark plugs.

Not familiar with your boat but im guessing it will be attached to the wall of your engine compartment. Follow the intake away from the engine and it should lead to the air filter.
Do not reuse the old sparkplugs. They are probably trashed from the water and adding oil to them will foul them. Look on the side of the plug and it will tell you the part# which you can use to pick up new ones. With two strokes its always good to have a spare set on hand anyway. They tend to foul up after a while due to oil injection.

Some two stroke engines have an oil bath for gears, etc. I spoke in haste, from other replies it sounds like your engine has no such bath, so no oil to change.

Just finished with the boat. She is running great. You guys are the best!!!!! I could not tell you how much appreciation I have for each and every one of you for helping me get through. I thought the engine might be a loss but with all of your help she is in great shape. My 18 year old daughter wanted to go on the boat this weekend for her graduation party and you all made that happen. Thank you so much and I will tell everyone how great you and this site are. Keep up the good work. Love from Massachusetts. If you guys are ever in the area, beers on me!!!!!
