We have a 2018 212X. Yes, the bimini is on the small side. It provides ample coverage, in my opinion, for 2-4 people sitting in the captains chairs and right behind them. Would I like it bigger? Sure, but if it were longer out the back, the tower tow point, with the tow line designed to go over the top of the bimini, would likely need to be redesigned.
There was a thread in here somewhere last yearbabout someone who extended the front stansions several inches on a 2017 or 18 212 X and then had a new, larger nylon bimini top made by a local tailor shop. It didn't cost much and extended the shade forward a fair amount.
Also, if the bimini issue is a primary concern, I suggest you take a look at the 242X. Yes, a bigger boat, more money, etc, but the bimini is a completely different design and provodes a lot more coverage.
In buying the 212X, our bottom line was that the bimini didnt seem abnormally small for a 21 foot boat. We also found that we spend more time with it furled than open on our boat after a season and a half.
By the way, the 2017-19 212 tower boats all have the same bimini design, I believe.
