212x: only 40 hours

We just checked out an 2009 212x with a sales price of 24,995.00. The boat was pretty clean, some old debris in the clean out ports / plugs in the back (couldn’t open them) and minor mold and a few little scrapes. There was also some rust on the trailer wheels (see attached). Our biggest concern is that the boat only has 40 hours on it. We were told the boat just didn’t get used much. Does this sound legit or should we be weary?

Price may be a little high, but who knows in this market. How did it run? Did the owner talk about maintenance performed? Oil changes, spark plug, etc.

Do you have more photos of the boat?

General thumb rule, if they took care of the cleaning and cosmetics, they did the maintenance too.

I wouldn’t stress to much about the rust. My cargo trailer wheels are pretty bad but bearings inside are pristine. You can pop the cap off pretty easy to look at the grease or lack there of in the bearing. Trailer bearings are pretty easy job if they don’t look great.

Also where are you located? A member with the YDS software and the cable can pull the hours and other data about the boat.

How did they know how many hours?

You could also try a jetski shop to read the hours

The boat is through a broker, so we aren't dealing with the owner. We are near Sacramento, and I posted on another thread asking if anyone had a YDS we could borrow (so far no responses). The hours are visible on the hour meter on the engine (see engine picture).

Looks like there are fins on the jets back there. The hull looks nice and buffed up, with graphics removed. How is the interior upholstery?

What does the engine compartment look like? Does it have a plastic or stainless scupper?

When you try it out make sure she spins both engines to just over 10k rpms and its able to get there in a hurry and also smoothly.

Hour meter is not stock so you don’t know when it was added. Hopefully someone in CA can get you connected with YDS. Maybe buy on eBay?

Yeah--see they are about $60, may go that route...

Yes, that was a nice surprise to see fins! Interior upholstery is perfect, and so is carpet, wit the exception of a minor water stain below the steering wheel. Engine compartment looked clean (possibly recently cleaned?). Forgot to check the scupper, but will do that on the test.
