Dropped the pig off at the stealership for service/warranty annoyances. One of them being my port side of the tower rattles. I hear it when driving.

Dealer said the hole for the tower was over drilled from Yamaha when built. Sorry, but your SOL he says, Yamaha won’t warranty it, poor Yamaha will have to build a whole new tower which takes 4 months, and it’s just too much $. Now, I’m not surprised, Yamaha is a bunch of assholes. I laugh and say no, try again. I have a warranty and I will pursue it. I tell him I reject Yamaha solution which is so sorry.

I’m waiting for the next response. Last I heard they’re looking for a fitting/hole/they don’t have a clue. Anyway, anyone else have this issue?

At least they’re replacing both wet sounds amps due to static noise interference.

This is an unusual complain. Do you have any pics? Is the sound coming from inside the tower leg, like something rattling? or is the whole tower leg moving/shaking?

I agree. Unusual complaint. I have no pics. It’s sitting at the dealer, and I refuse to pick it up until fixed or an agreed fix is found. They said a new tower takes 3-4 months to build.

The rattle comes from the pivot point in the port side tower mount. Where that locking pin goes in. It’s rattled since new. When bouncing off waves you can hear it rattle.

The dealer told me it was over drilled when it was made. I think that’s a manufacturer defect.

It’s the whole tower moving and shakes. .

Ha this is so funny I was just having this conversation with @Andy S . Not funny that your having the issue @NORCAL-GAS I’m sorry to hear it. @Andy S and I were talking the other day he was on the way to drop his Cobalt off at the dealership for a warranty issue. He said his issue was the paint was chipping on his tower and Cobalt was replacing the tower. No BS not painting it or touching it up the we’re replacing the tower. I laughed at him and told him if my paint was chipping I bet Yamaha wouldn’t even offer me a tube of touch up paint under warranty. Its sad there is the much despair in customer service between two companies.

It’s the whole tower moving and shakes. .
That would make me want to have it addressed...
Those 240/242 towers are massive, and wiggles and shakes can build up quickly, with the right chop period it can be like a resonating bridge span and a marching column situation.

Is it the tower rattling by the Bimini as well ? The lower pin area on mine made a squeaking noise so I lubed it with some grease this helped

The Bimini makes noise at the pivot point there is a set screw that holds an Allen bolt in place in the spring I will remove it and see what can be done . I think it needs some plastic bushings and washers to eliminate the play . In the past peel and stick velcro with the soft side has helped eliminate rattling noises and tighten things up with items that were loose and making noise . The adjustable tower by product is the chance that something rattles . The towers are under a lot of stress when the boat starts hitting waves my avatar picture was from a video when Yamaha stress tested the older AR230 model . They put sensors on the boat and went out in the ocean hitting 4-6 foot waves and filmed it one of the employees posted it on you tube it was pulled down within 48 hrs , when the boat came back in the tower was cracked and bent.

I am glad to see you putting your foot down and the dealer I trying to help.
If I were you, I would not be too cocky about the whole situation. We have people get hit in the head by their towers and Yamaha told them “ too bad”.

The ultimate objective is to get as much as you can get instead of getting what is “right”. Don’t forget that doing the right thing is not always the right thing to do.

The tower only rattles in one place, listed a few posts above. I’m not aware of anyone having Bimini tower rattles in other locations. Dealer called today, left a vm, I’ll try to get back with them tomorrow and update the thread.

I know what you’re explaining. Seems like if washers were in place it could get rid of that noise.

I don’t accept washers for sloppy workmanship. And I am sure that 10 years of wakeboarding on the tower pulling back and forth won’t help their manufacturing sloppiness.

That’s great. I’m sure you and I are not the only ones with the issue. Please report back once you determine what the warranty will cover. Thanks.

So talked to the dealer yesterday afternoon. It’s like I’m in the twilight zone. They’ve gone from pissing me off with record setting sh!tty customer service to setting the situation straight.

They’ve agreed to replace both wet sounds amps under warranty due to static interference noise throughout boat.
They secured the plastic panel behind the port seat that would vibrate really bad with loud music.
They bought a new AK tie rod from cobra jet steering. (They bent my old one). And they replaced it, and cost. It should’ve been that way from the get go, I had to argue...they’re making it right. I’m kinda shocked.
They supposedly fixed the rattle from starboard engine, I’ll get details on that when I pick up.

Now, the tower—-I’m waiting till Monday to hear back from the point guy who’s been talking to Yamaha. I’ve expressed my concerns, quite a few times to my dealer hoping they convey the message to Yamaha. A tower that rattles and moves at the pivot point is not OK. Stay tuned, more on Monday or Tuesday.

Sucks you are having issues but glad to hear your dealer is straightening things out. Just an FYI but Yamaha doesn't build the towers. They are built by XTP who builds towers for many OEM boat mfg's. They are the parent company to Monster Tower which is their aftermarket division. The only holes Yamaha drill for the towers are the mounting holes in the fiberglass deck to attach the tower bases.

FWIW. Many folks on here have fixed noise issues in their stereo system by grounding the headunit to the same ground block as amps with thick wire. They key is to have the same and robust path to ground for all of the audio equipment. As for the tower call it a bodily harm saftey concern in writing if have not already. Good luck.

Quick update, I’ll add some pics when I can.
Dealer fixed everything I asked. They even replaced the bent ak rod at their cost which I think they bent. They contacted cobra jet steering, liked him so much they signed up as a dealer (your welcome Jeff) and turned into a decent dealer experience.

The tower-
They said Yamaha or whoever built it messed up. They were able to replace the “white bushing that was over drilled”.
Originally they said this couldn’t be done. So I’m curious to see the fix, either way, I still have 5-6 months of warranty. They claimed the tower is fixed.

Please post the name of the dealer, once it’s all done, sounds like that dealership warrants some very positive ratings.
Sounds like they may have a lot of sway with mother Yamaha, which is unfortunately not the case with most dealers.

I have to admit, at first I didn’t like them. I was actually quite upset a few times.

Now, currently they are super nice. They’ve made things right several times. I believe in fair is fair. They’ve earned my trust back, and a good review.

West Coast Boat center in Rocklin, CA.

John in Service is great. He’s the manager, been around jet boats since the beginnings, and Kevin in parts is great.
