First of all - I love the JetBoatPilot shallow water anchors - and they’ve been awesome to help me with info! I was originally going to position my boat in Florida, so my wish list was easy - drop it off, write them a check and be happy with it all. But, my plans changed. The 2024 FSH H will be on Rainy Lake mostly and won’t see Florida for probably 2 years.

With that, I found a great rigging guy for all my electronics, troller, house battery, etc. That leaves 2 key elements unaccounted for:

1) Seakeeper Ride. I think I have someone located a few hours away on this, and I’ll beat down the forums to make sure they read up on the lessons learned there for my specific boat. If anyone knows anyone else in the Midwest they'd recommend, I’m open.

2) Shallow water anchors. I prefer the Talon as I’ve used them before and like the non-hydraulic mechanism - but but not sure about the weight. Again if JBP was not 20+ hours away - I’d have them work their magic, and they do not sell their brackets if they aren’t doing the install. So, ideas on how or who can pull this off in the Midwest or where I can source brackets that would be a clean install?

Any ideas and help especially around #2 would be appreciated!

Put a trolling motor on your boat and the spot lock will take care of holding you in a given location. I’d think this would be a much better option than hanging those shallow water anchors off the stern of your boat.

As far as the sea keeper ride, go to their website and see if they have a certified installer in your area.

I have that covered - 90” kraken with 36v 100ah battery going on. I want them for beaching it…

Well then, do a Med tie and break out a small danforth to put on the beach…. Way cheaper and you get to keep your swim step uncluttered

I hear you and solid advice. I tend to be the bells and whistles guy who likes to overcomplicate things! :)

Have you seen this option?

thinking you might be able to use the gunnel storage for the anchor when not in use. While not as convenient as a power pole, it might provide you an option until you are closer to JBP.

I have also used a 15lb navy styled anchor on the stern with success when the current isn’t overly strong. Fits nicely in a 5 gallon bucket with the chain and rode. Could also step up to 20lbs.

As far as anchors, it’s not about the weight it’s about how much chain is attached, how much rode you have out, style of anchor and what your anchoring in to(mud, sand, rocks). Ive boated all over the Midwest and mainly used a small danforth anchor with no issues in deep water, shallows and at sand bar/beaches.

I never beached ours, we left her floating. I suggest putting on a keel guard if the gelcoat will be in contact with sand/shells.

I had looked in to those since our area is so shallow but I believe those are just a secondary "anchor" point. The pole is only fiberglass so not super strong.

Yes, you would still need your primary bow anchor.

Haven’t tried mine in an area with significant current yet, but other users have mentioned they work in a moderate current; I just can’t confirm.

It sure would be nice to not have to use the anchor. I hate retrieving that in mud.

Or JBP could do a road show and install them in Iowa... :)
