I have been looking at many different sx 190 boats for a while now, and I have noticed the captain’s chair being broke a lot of the time. Is this a problem for those chairs?

Seems like it. I found my seat broken when i removed it to install Seadek. Seems the roto-mold plastic base is not reinforced enough to absorb the shock of a person while going over bumps. instead of a hollow base, I think it should have been 1 solid piece. Somewhere here is a thread of my fix for the seat base.

So the passenger chair base is different and plastic than the metal one for the drivers base? Or are the bases for SX completely different than AR? The only plastic on my seat is the handle which selects swivel and slide or the plastic collar that slides up into the pole.

I’m talking about the back rest. I looked at two boats the other night at a dealer and the back rest was broken on both captains chairs. He said they were about 400 to replace. I’ll look for that thread.

Hmm well this is news to me and never noticed any broken chairs on these boats. My guess is it's less about them taking rough water and more the fact they are very low and not the easiest to get in and out of so people probably tend to use the backrest as a means of supporting their weight to get in or out. I know I do. Probably best in the long run to use the swivel I suppose. Do you have a pic of a broken seat? I'd like to know where to look for on mine.

After demoing the Moomba Max a week ago I never really appreciated how nice it can be to have a seat that isn't a low rider and is designed in a way that doesn't wrap around on the sides making it hard to get in and out of.

I tried to find some pics, but the dealer took the pics in such a way as to hide it. The back rest seems to break at the seat on the back side and slides down. The front part of the back rest still seemed to be attached.

I have never seen one from the bottom, but I would imagine that’s would it would look like from the bottom. What was your fix?

I've been tempted to see if I can remove the locking mechanism for the chair swivel. It's a PITA to work on our boats. Chaparral was genius in their chair designs with the levers in easy view/reach on the sides.

Yea I really like their seat swivel and slide made into the seat. They're definitely better than reaching down between your legs.

So I got the chair off, took all the hardware off and Added some plywood. Looks way better than it did. I know I should have used pressure treated, but this is what I had on hand D64F99B0-9138-44A9-BD67-7AAE37DE05FD.jpeg2968845C-AF1D-46A1-B186-D7D42DEEDEAF.jpeg 4169BFD7-A406-4F2C-928E-D69E5E04CDCB.jpeg

Works better too after its fixed, right? If you have any open voids, pump some polyurethane glue in there.
