2 part question here.

1. is it common for these motors to be cold cranking on initial startup? Usually takes 3-4 times @10-15 Sec to fire. Usually quick and easy once warm and in the water.

2. at what rpm is normal for idle speed?

It’s common but not right for them to take that long to fire when cold. Sounds like it’s time for the carbs to be rebuilt. I’d also suggest adding fuel-air seperators along with an in-line electric booster fuel pump. You’ll have them firing the first time you turn the key.

In the water idle rpm should be set to ~1200.
