I remember someone once installing shut off valves to hook up hose water to flush while boat was in water ... has anyone done this successfully ?

@yam240sx Saltwater can corrode but freshwater can biofoul. My worst problems have come from the residual fresh water left in the cooling system after the engines are flushed.

how in the world would you get rid of or even get freshwasher biofoul? I Have had yamaha marine engines in fresh water for 20+ years and never had biofoul. never heard of such a thing til i googled biofoul.

I just got back from the Florida Panhanel, I had left my waverunner and jetski in the water for a week in water. I washed them off every day with salt a away, and flushed the engine at the end of the week. I stopped at a fresh water lake on the way home and ran them hard for 20-30 min as well. That being said, I don't think I would ever take a boat/waverunner in salt water again. That stuff is nasty.

@ACRDSPORT14 Thanks for responding. I am trying to let @yam240sx know that sometimes a problem can be created by solving another problem.
Docking a boat for long periods in salt water is not the only issue. The naturally damp environment of the cooling system is perfect for microbial buildup. Add to that, even with shutoff valves, the intake screen can 'slime' over. I think it is good to be aware of some of these other potential issues,

Although my boat is not left in salt water, its sits for long periods of time without use. I prevent biofouling by running the engines in No-Wake mood and without cooling water for about a minute and a half. This I do a day or two after flushing. The engines used to overheat on a regular basis. Since I started drying out the cooling systems in this way, I no longer have overheat shutdowns.

i think you are all missing my question .... simple .. boat is docked in salt water , i want to flush my engines with the garden hose.. someone once installed cut off valves allowing you to stop the ocean water intake and have fresh water from hose go through motors all while boat is docked in water ..

Install the valves and flush away.
