I just use a good quality silicon spray. Protects without leaving a greasy, oily film.

CRC 6-56 The best $h!t there is. Been using it for decades. You can spray it on wires, electrical, metal, plastics etc. I spray the entire engine compartment engines wires everything. Buy it by the gallon.
I have a can or two of brand new CRC 5-56, but end up using Boeshield T9... which leaves nasty residue.
Do you have an opinion on 6-56 vs T9?

Not really nasty, but it is beige/white-ish "scummy" looking layer. Not pretty.

3m is the best silicone I use it for work for train equipment window installation for the rubber gasket . I'm only in salt water and my engine looks like new. far Superior to other brands

That's a good tip, if true, and I am assuming you would know!

Tricky subject, as some silicone products especially high gloss like Armor All also contain other ingredients that may actually dissolve the wax and be the cause of premature rubber cracking/failure.

In fact, UV-light is also part of the desintergration of rubber, like heat, wear and dirt. I tend use 303 aerospace protectant on rubber seals - and I buy it by a gallon.

I haven't used the T9 but I used to run boats in the navy and we used CRC back in the 80's on some high end boats and never had any issues. I have used it since on everything. It leave a light film but not bad. I also use the 303 on all vinyl/ rubber. My hot tub cover still looks great after 4 years.

I have also used CRC Salt Terminator full strength in a spray bottle to spray engine and jet nozzles as well as an engine flush.

I used Fluid Film and was happy with it.
It had a pleasant smell and didn’t make a mess on everything.

I do a mix of both and could see a little not rust but discoloration on the 2 bolts that hold the spark plug cover.

I used the wd40 specialties silicon spray. Sprayed everything and looks great!

Ok good to know. Does it leave any residual film?
