image.jpg The previous owner fixed a hole where a wakeboard tower was. The fiberglass is done but how can I smooth this out and is there a way to get the color and finish like the rest of the boat? Thank you

How well did the previous owner patch that? Is it solid? Did they use fiberglass to patch it?

If you are a handy kind of guy and are willing to drop a couple hundred dollars on tools I'm sure we can help you out here. Professional would probably charge you between four and 500 bucks to repair both sides back to new, Provided what has been done previously is up to par.

The good news is that's a good spot to have to deal with, I would think a straight line air sander would take care of it pretty easy, I would say you will have to 're gel coat the area and go a little further out to blend it. I think your upper decals will have to be a casualty to blend it in nice. ** I am not a professional, but I do play one on TV. :D:eek:

The previous owner was a Service manager at our local Yamaha dealership. I think he did a great job as far as the fiberglass since it is very solid front/back. I just need to make it smooth or buy some additional graphics to over the spot. Ideas on smoothing it out and gel coat?

If all it needs is sanding and gel coat it shouldn't be too much. If, however, the repair needs to be built up to be made level with the surrounding area (I can't tell from this picture) it will cost a bit more since you'll be adding several steps - filler, sanding, etc.

The key to this repair is color matching. Depending on the extent of gel coat degradation surrounding the repair and the eye of the guy mixing the gel coat, you could get a perfect job or a so - so job.

You'll need to stay on top of that spot after the repair - the older portion of the hull may tend to discolor faster than the repair material and over time, if neglected, you might be able to see the patched area again.

But, all in all, not too bad. Check around. If you find someone not very busy you could get it done for a reasonable price.

Or, you could get a real big decal! :D
