Having read numerous posts and ideas on here regarding fishing rod holders i thought i would throw in my 10 pence worth and see what i could come up with, there appears to be many different approaches to the problem and some at quite high costs, I looked closely at places to fit these rod holders and the most obvious places were as follows.

1 The Wake tower
2 The grab rails
3 Swim platform table support

Having sat down and sketched a few ideas during the evenings here's what i come up with and how i approached the problem, Out here in Thailand for those who are not familiar with my posts we don't have the pleasure of going to our local chandler and obtaining an assortment of bolt on goodies so we have to make them, This may give you a few ideas and cut the cost considerably, I appreciate that some of you may not have a wake tower but rear table mounts and grab rails I'm pretty sure you do have, Ok here goes i hope you enjoy and it may spur you on to have a go.

Of to the local DIY to check out what clamps were available, Decided on these folding type get stainless if you can but if not galvanized will be ok.

Next it was down to my local fabrication shop to have a look through his scrap stainless bin to see what i could use.

Ok having located some tubing a plate etc it was time to start cutting and welding it all together.

It doesn't take long before thing's start to take shape

These are the wake tower holders nearly finished

Starting on the mounting plate for the rear table mount

Checking everything fits before final welding

IMG_20160614_142550_1.jpg

Ok i think you get the general idea just needs a good polish and fitting

IMG_20160614_142550.jpg IMG_20160614_143034.jpg

The rear table mount is taking shape

This is for the rear grab rail, I used square section as it rests against the grab rail when it's in position and makes a good solid mount.

Plenty of leg room and you can adjust the height up or down as you wish

IMG_20160614_143253_1.jpg

You can see the rear grab rail i made from a previous post i was sick of that stupid original one that always breaks, the rod holder will fit on both.

All finished and you can see the results, Notice how the square section rests against the grab rail and it cant move, I'm quite pleased with the results and the total cost about 2 hours work and about $10, I'm sure there are local fabrication shops near to you so just ask them if you can have a look through there scrap bin there only to pleased as they will get more $ from you than from a scrap dealer.

That is quite impressive! I could never fabricate something like that myself. Did you insert/create a gimbal pin/bar in the base of each holder to lock the rod butt in place and keep it from spinning/moving around freely?
I'm sure you could do that if you put your mind to it, I didn't put a gimbal in as i just use a piece of rubber around the reel and loop it over the base of the mount to stop movement simple but does the job.

Thinking about some rod holders and found this old tread. Very nice location decision and fab work!

Thanks for your kind comment, Just a little bit of thought and some scrap stainless steel, Working out where to fit them rather than start making holes in the boat, They work fine I've used them a few times and also had some positive feedback about them also.

20161028_160837.jpg I found a pvc insert that fits in place of the cup holders. I plan on taking pics this weekend. Made by EasyRodder.com

Just seeing this. Did you ever get a chance to use these, get pics and give a quick review?
I use my Boat at least twice a week and the rod holders work great, I should have made them years ago.

This worked great for a 2007 Yamaha 230sx
1. Bought this thing from Tite-Lok ( 5940-620 Stow Away Trolling System )
2. Bought this 11" version Attwood Wedge 2" Extension Post with a 3/4" pin up top
3. I took a hacksaw to the Attwood, and cut it just above the black base, leaving the 2" post and adapter pin (about 9" long)
4. Cut a small, 6" pool float noodle and shoved it inside the boat's original rear table post (it is shorter than the main table)
5. Slide the trimmed Attwood into the table post
6. Insert the table post in the swim platform hole
7. Insert the Tite-Lok
8. Tether each side of the Tite-Lok to the stern cleats for extra support
9. Boom, hook up your snap weights and planer boards, and you're fishing!!

Bonus, is the noodle will keep the post afloat if it falls in the water. I actually cut another noodle and put into the longer post, just in case it fell in too. I haven't done it, but you could also drill a small hole for a set screw to keep the 2" Attwood in place.
