So refilling fuel from gas cans has it's excitement.

It seems so far the gauge is a bit optimistic, but it's hard to tell. I have the floating float, so no ethanol calibration issues.

I'm under 1/4 but barely.

How certain should I be that I can pour 40 gallons?

Every bodies gas gauge is different. But I know if I hit a 1/4 I can prolly get 50 in it.

It's actually a 52 or 53 gallon per markings on the tank even though Yamaha says 50

I can't find pictures on the phone but they been posted before

I think he was being funny because his sender isn't working correctly

@Marvin willis. You know you can adjust high and low level readings on the sender

I know but I know how to read my fuel gauge as is. I took friends out to dinner on the boat one night and put 52 gallons in it when I got back. That’s how I found out it was a little off. It was right at the empty mark at that point. Close enough for government work.

Next time you fill it I would recalibrate the sending unit. It's an easy process. I you lake drivers run out of gas you can just throw out the anchor and sit there, red faced, while waiting for help. Us salty dogs are not so lucky. Be smart, recalibrate.

With the regular float on my 2008, a sliver below full was 40.6 gallons to fill at the pump. I ended up going to the pump as my fuel transfer hose got damaged last time I used it. I'll try the cans again once I fix the jiggler hose.
