I just bought a 2002 LS2000 and was told to use a 50:1 mix whenever I gas up. I just read the owners manual and it seems to say to ONLY do that during the break in!

Am I supposed to add oil every time I add gas or not? See below from the owner's manual.


Failure to follow the break-in procedures may result in reduced engine life or even engine damage.

􏰀 During first full tank of fuel, use 50:1 pre-mix fuel (in addition to oil in oil tank).

􏰀 After above period, use straight gasoline for normal operation.

Not totally related but I use non-ethanol for the 50.

only during the intial breakin period. Do you still have the oil reservoir attached to both motors? That will supply the correct amount of oil. It would not hurt adding a small does of oil to the gas when boat sits over a winter season.

Yes, those engines should be equipped with oil injection unless the previous owner took the tanks/lines out and switched to premix. No need to worry. And they do burn enough oil, that you should see the oil level drop in one day of running.

Things you should know:
Oil Lines
One thing you MUST do is upgrade the oil lines or convert to pre-mixed fuel!!! The original oil lines WILL fall off, resulting in engine failure!!!
Flush Hose
Remember, when flushing the cooling system, NEVER run the water unless the engine is running!!! Start the engine, THEN turn on the water. Shut off the water, THEN turn off the engine. Running the water without having the engine running can allow water to flow backward through the exhaust into the engine cylinders and cause major damage!!!
Lanyard
Whenever you crank the engines with the spark plugs removed, remove the wrist lanyard to disable the ignition system. Failure to do this can result in damage to the ignition box.
Storage
It is not recommended that you store your boat in the water for long periods. Debris can collect in the jet pumps and prevent starting; salt water will cause severe corrosion. Leaks are not uncommon, either. If you must store your boat in the water, it is highly recommended that you install a backup bilge pump with float switch, and a backup power source.
Drain Plug
Do not store the boat with the drain plug inserted (obviously not applicable if you leave the boat in the water). Rain water can collect inside the hull and flood the engine compartment.
Cleanout Plugs
Make sure the plugs are in snugly and tie them together with a rope so you don't lose one!
Engine Hatch
If you have a factory cover, it is a good idea to tow your boat with the cover on the boat. The reason is that if the latch on the engine hatch were to release, the hatch could be bounced open and get ripped off the boat! This is NOT a common problem, but it has happened. NOTE: The early Yamaha factory covers had a soft lining. The later ones do not. Towing with an unlined cover can cause scuffing of the ‘windshield’. Be sure to securely place a soft towel over the windshield to protect it from the cover. Another option would be to install a long strap to go across the boat to prevent the engine hatch fro
