Changing my oil today I noticed the grey rubber boots on the air intake cover had melted on both sides. I checked the air filters they look brand new. Doesn’t look like grey sticky goop went into the air box. Im guessing it just got hot as hell sitting in the sun under the cover. Dirty South! I cleaned off the remaining sticky gunk on the cover and out of bottom of engine bay. Is this normal/happened to anyone else? Do I need to replace these covers?

Is this an OEM air filter part? I'm not familiar with MR-1s, but someone must have seen it before.

Glad you found it! They just seem to break down with age.
