Groundhog Removal

Alright, looking for advice. I was out measuring for the where I am going to pour concrete for the boat to sit, extending the drive, and I will be removing a 10 x 12 barn shed. Come to find out there a big ass groundhog living under it. Right off to the left of the shed I am going to put the pool that came in.

I figured what the hell, I can just grab my Ravin crossbow and it will work itself out in short order. Maybe tune up the Possum that is tearing up the garden as well. Admiral says that is a no go, although I was half joking. Called an Animal Removal Company, both animals will run me $1,200 to remove. Seems high.

I would prefer that they both just move on and take up residence somewhere else.

Was watching a video on Youtube where the guy just kept pissing on the hole and entrance and indicated that the groundhog moved on eventually. Admiral also vetoed that.

I guess a Humane trap maybe, but I have never done that before.

Suggestions?

Get a live trap then transplant him or her to a park, field, school etc....Regarding the pee trick when I lived in Clarkston my backyard neighbor and I shared a fence and his dog never stop barking
So at night (after a few beers) I would mark my territory on the fence and it drove the dog crazy. It didn't help with the barking but made me feel better.

Live humane trap and a 22 caliber pistol. Removed about 8 that way. Kind of defeated the humane trap though lol. I also put a smoke bomb in a hole and when they ran out of other holes I picked them off. They probably caused 10k in damage that we had to repair between being under the barn and under parts of the house. Caused our sewer line to collapse.

I bet a nice pellet gun would also work. Quieter than a 22.

You could try tossing mothballs around that area... I’ve used them for various pests and that seems to make them go away.

I have never seen a groundhog, we just have rats and gophers in the yard here.

No groundhogs here but I have armadillos that burro under my garage and dig up my lawn. My neighbor traps them in a havahart and takes them somewhere for me.

The State does not let people transplant captured wild animals to other locations due to rabies and other transmissable diseases. They prefer the "Shoot, Shovel and Shutup" approach. A good dog will take care of the vermin.

Came in to recommend a dog and to not relocate for the same reason. Grandfather was a local game warden for decades. He has preached on the problems of transplanting animals the entire time. He also keeps a dog or tow around to keep the gophers/mole/chipmunks/groundhogs/etc away.

A generator and exhaust hose into the hole......

Our office in Denver watched this being done to a whole hillside of prairie dogs in advance of new construction (not sure if they used a generator....but they gassed them).

When I was thinking of schools i was thinking of my sons high school. It has over 20 plus acres of woods, great for a woodland creature. But a small elementary school in a city, no not a good idea.

My brother in law had a groundhog issue in his backyard. I spent the night at his house, he woke me up super early. We went into the bathroom that faces the backyard, slid the window open quietly, and I rested my .22LR on the sill. It has a SilencerCo Sparrow suppressor, and I used subsonic ammo. It's quieter than a pellet gun, one shot to the head and he had no more gopher issues.

You can't do this in a neighborhood of course, but that wasn't an issue for us.
