On a 19 year old boat? depends on condition, Maintenance, degree of use, saltwater or freshwater use, was stored inside or outside.

Ive not owned one of those but was tracking on that specific model and age for some time. After reading about the motors for many moons and the "possible" things people were running into...granted so many hours into the life of those generation of motors....and comparing them to the newer 4 stroke ones i bumped up to the newer 4 stroke years because of the higher level of dependability and number of hours run compared between the two is very different. I've been doing all my own mechanical work for over 30 years so not afraid of fixing anything and to date have done so. But to me there is also a value for sure in not having to. I`m sure you can find any type and year of boat out there thats been taken care of, but the opposite is also true. The big thing that got me was the ability to readily pull the hours of run time from those boats from the engines...not easily done for all. Which for guessing on how much life is left in the motors is a key factor along with what Liveto99 said. Good luck with your decision.
