maybe that helps others reproduce the issue.

Like @zipper, my initial visit to a thread is usually okay, everything seems to be in its place. However, it did just occur while visiting the "show us what you see thread".

Ironically it was your picture with Barry that had replaced @Babin Farms picture of his daughter driving.

I clicked the image to enlarge it, it remained the same, clicked the icon to open on a new page and the correct picture appeared. I then clicked back closing the browser pages, back to the email notification and re-clicked to visit the same post and upon returning all was in order.

I was/am viewing on my Samsung Note 8 from my gmail browser. I have witnessed it occurring in chrome on the same device as well.

Short version, please use Command + Shift + R or Control + Shift + R to clear your cache and reload the page when you see this. On mobile devices I believe you will need to clear the complete cache.

I was able to see this using Chrome but not with Firefox or Safari by loading the URL https://jetboaters.net/threads/show-us-what-you-see.4515/page-340#lg=attachment108967&slide=0 many times. When the wrong image was displayed the page loaded slowly.

I looked at the webserver logs and noticed that the images were not being loaded from the server during these loads. That URL loads the entire page with an image opened for display. The first time the image is loaded the logs show 200 "OK" response. On future loads of the page Chrome asks if the image has changed from the cached version to which the server responds 304 "not changed".

You can see those requests in these logs

This was a Command + Shift + R hard refresh.

This was a subsequent Command + R refresh. You can see that only a few images were checked to see if they have changed and that the response is a 304 so Chrome displays the cached copy which it must be doing incorrectly some of the time.

@Bruce Thanks for sticking with it, I at times felt like I/my devices were the problem and hurt the site. Before I contacted J-Rad, I thought I was the only member seeing this. For a few days, before I knew others were seeing what I was, I was freeking out thinking I had 3 compromised devices. Even though Willow reassured me over and over, we were good. I too have been persistant trying to find ways around the issue. Again, appologies for the overload of screenshots. I like this group and I was trying everything I could to provide information to possibly solve the problem. As my PM title to you says "Sorry to be a Nag..." Good Work!

@zipper, the problem is that I do not see how to resolve this.

It seems to be an issue with how Chrome is handling caching. It needs to be reported to Chrome as a bug.

I could disable image caching but that would slow down forum usage for everyone.

Now that we mostly know what is going on, I am ok with the knowledge that it exists and we now know how to get around it, until a patch can be installed or not.

There is a Xenforo script that displays the image over the page but it includes the correct URL for the image and works correctly in Firefox and Safari. So I believe this is entirely a Chrome issue.
