There are some pretty clever and creative people on this site. I'm looking to cover and insulate this newly installed water line and older well head. I am terrible with DIY construction. This was left behind from our new home construction. well head.jpgWould any of you have any suggestions for covering and insulating this well head? We are in south central Texas so do not get a lot of freezing temps. It would be nice to match the storage building behind it but not necessary.

Make a small doghouse for it, match the siding and shingles and of course no floor. Insulate with fiberglass and line the inside with plywood over the insulation. Have a door on the front for maintenance or no door and just lift it off. I would double plate the bottom with treated lumber as well.

Coming from a frozen North perspective, I would a heat trace (tape) the pipe where it is above the ground and find some 1 1/2"? insulation over the PVC. You could manually plug it in or put on a t-stat. Up North water lines do not come out the top of the casing because they will freeze. We install a pitless adapter at least 4-5' below the surface. The dog house is a good idea to cover it all up, just watch out for snakes. If you are looking to replace the duct tape, cut a big PVC 90° elbow and slip it over the casing and pipe. Something like this I use to run (2) insulated 1" Pex-AL-Pex waterlines to the outdoor boiler and back. For reference the elbow is 6" dia. It covers up two 1" 90° PEX compression fittings, good luck.
