The serrated edge on the second one would be helpful cutting through rope.

I am not a fan of cheap knives. I keep a utility knife on the boat for emergencies and a SOG which I consider to be good steel for a midranged price in my pocket.

If anybody wants cheap knives, I can get forum logo Chinese knives for around $5 each.

Whatever cuts through a tow rope the best. I think a serrated knife works best. Had to use it only once.

Get something with at least SOME serration. I would Highly recommend
either the Leatherman MUT or Leatherman Supertool. Otherwise I have several of these http://www.kershawknivesdirect.com/kershaw-blur-tactical-black-tanto-blade-combo-edge-p-8584.html in various places. One in each vehicle, one in my tool box, one in my range box, and I almost always carry one.

Thanks but I kept two brand new leathermans on my boat last year and both of them rusted pretty badly. These were not the cheap ones either. (I had the large and small one). Whatever knife I have has to be extremely corrosion resistant as I boat in salt water.

I'm not sure if you looked at the other pics of the first knife, but it also has a saw blade with hook that flips out.

The SOG knives look nice, but I really dont want to spend more than 50 bux. I'll look into all the knives that have been recommended here.

Have had a Leatherman Wave on my boats for years. Never take it out and I has not rusted or tarnished and has a straight and serrated blade. Have had to cut a rope out of the tube with it and it performed great. I'm not a fan of the rubberized handle with wet/suntan lotion hands.

Are you in salt water? I have the Rebar and Wave and they both rusted, I kept them in my glove box... I'll take some pictures when I get home. Maybe Leatherman will warranty them?

I boat in fresh water. I do have a wave in my salt water fishing tackle. I checked it and found no rust on it either. I have 4 Waves, in boat, hiking pack, fishing tackle box and everyday use. The original Leatherman I still have from ? years ago is still in pretty good condition. I would try the warranty. Couldn't hurt.

From sitting in my glove box for 3 months last year...

If they don't warrant it, I would take some steel wool and WD40 to that...
