Getting ready to do my oil change for the season. Used mobil1 high mile 10w40 last time, no real complaints except that I ended up with like a third a 5qt jug left over to do little with. Seen some recommendations to use shell Rotella t6 5w40, I used that in a Subaru STI and enjoyed it, other than the weird 4qt size.

Whats everyone else planning to use? Anything to consider outside of Mobil 1? My boat is low hours and rarely sees over 8500 rpm, we typically cruise to the sandbar and chill on it. We are planning to get a tube, so the usage might get a bit more intensive. Not interested in a soil or other mail order things.

Thoughts?

Personally I like Mobil 1 bot any high quality synthetic is going to be fine. I just trust Mobil 1 because I have run it for years in many high performance engines.

I use Castrol blended oil as the full synthetic was not properly wetting the oil pan gasket causing minor leaks. With the low hours we generally put on these boats any 10w40 brand name oil will be fine.

So, random question - I'm going to be doing my first oil change in my 190 this year and I'm reading on this forum and some recommend using the Yamalube, some recommend others (I'm not concerned about the brand), but the one that's confusing me is some people recommend using regular synthetic oil. Are we not required to use 4-stroke oil, actually, as long as it's at 10w-40, etc.?

Probably a dumb question, but wanted to check.

Thanks!

I've been using Yamalube since 2010 in my boat and haven't had issues and I use Sea Doo XPS in my PWCs, I don't see any reason to use any other oil but the manufacturers.

My understanding is that the marine Yamaha engines are basically beefed up motorcycle engines. The marine grade oils don't really add anything for our engines.

I've always run full synthetic in my bikes and blend in other vehicles. First time changing oil on this. Anyone use a synthetic blend?
